Final Day – 14/04/2013 – 22

We started today with 9 hopefulls, now we have just one remaining in Eirimas Livonas who has all the chips, which is how you win a tournament. He is and will forever be GukPT Didsbury Main Event champion 2013.

The day got off to a flier with Matt Davenport being eliminated in less than a round of the table, shoving the button with J-10 and being called by Yani Yanev in the big blind. Matt needed help tabling J-10 vs the A-9 of Yani who would hit two pair. Matt Davenport finishing 9th for £1,530.

IMG_6344

Alex Zeligman was next to fall, running his pocket Queens into the pocket Kings of Eirimas. He would take £2,105 for 8th. Amir Dandanfard would be good for seventh after trying to bluff the unbluffable man Yani Yanev who called his huge shove with second pair. Amir would cash out for £2,870.

aimr

Andy Booth would finish in sixth place, losing a race to Tom Hall. Andy having 5-5 against the K-Q of Tom, the first card out was a Queen and Andy headed for the cash desk with a ticket worth £3,620. Tom Hall would then leave in 5th place, after running pretty well with all ins he would get his last lot of chips in with A-3 against the 8-8 of Ben Winsor and couldn’t get there. Tom would take home £4,785.

IMG_6355

Justin Devonport grinded his short stack for a few hours then finally got it in with K-9 against the A-10 of Yani who held A-10. Yani would turn an Ace, meaning Justin left us in 4th for £6,120.

It looked like Ben Winsor was going to dominate the table three handed, then he moved in out of the small blind with K-8 and ran into Yani who hit QUADS with his pocket tens. Ben would leave with £9,945 for his third place finish.

IMG_6350

We then got to heads up and the chip lead swung back and fourth for an hour or so. Then Eirimas started to dominate taking a 3:1 chip lead. After the break Yani then changed his style opting to just ship all in. It lasted for three hands where Eirimas found QUEENS. The hand that had been so good to him all tournament. It held against the K-Q of of Yani and we had a champion. A fantastic performance from Yani who took home £15,870.

Eirimas Leads the Final 9 – 13/04/2013 – 22:10

After 8 levels and 5 minutes of Day 2 play we have reached the final nine players. It’s been a cracking days poker with 55 players battling it out, all with the same aim, to be coming back tomorrow.

We started the day with a bang! Losing 10 players in the first level. It was steady from then, until we got down to around 25 players. Then it took a good few levels for us to reach the final two tables. Action then hotted up and hand for hand on the bubble only lasted two hands. Rod Albright, winner of the Plymouth leg last year leaving with nothing, running pocket sevens into the eights of Graham Doherty.

Once in the money it got a little crazy and there seemed to be an all in almost every other hand. David Joyce, Terry Etim, Nigel Ventre, Anwar Kanj & Justin Sevilla were all good for a min cash of £1,150.

Hand for hand on the bubble was also short, only lasting 5 minutes. Graham Doherty was the unlucky man who will miss out on the final.

Today was the day for Eirimas Livonas who got some HUGE hands, bust aces twice with pocket queens, both for huge pots!! He will lead the troops into battle tomorrow.

Exit Rutter & Galo – 13/04/2013 – 12:32

It’s not the usual manic start we have to a day two of the GukPT but we have lost two more players leaving us with 52. Those two players are Stuart Rutter & David Galo. Very unlike Stu, four bet shoving with K-Q, but he had two tickets to the Leeds v Sheff Wed game burning a hole in his wallet. So I’m guessing he thought to himself get stacked or go to the game. He is ‘happily’ on his way to the game now.

Day 1b is done!! – 12/04/2013 – 22:40

After nine levels of play Day 1b is done!! We had 94 entries total for Day 1b a massive improvement on yesterdays 59. That means we have 153 entrants in total, creating a prizepool of £76,500!! Meaning first place will be £22,500.

It’s been a slow days poker today, with not much happening in the first few levels. Then a steady flurry of eliminations means we finish the day with 33 players. They will join the 22 players who made it through yesterday, to come back tomorrow to play down to the final table.

Niels Ladefoged is the chip leader from today and will leave the 60 players into battle tomorrow.

We will be back tomorrow from Noon. I hope you join us then.

Bluff Gone Bad!! – 12/04/2013 – 22:22

On a flop of 10–4–5. Kuljinder and Tony Cartwright are at it again, Kully bets 3400, Tony raises to 7500, Kully goes into the tank then moves all in for around 22,000, Tony takes a few minutes before calling with Q-10 for top pair. Kully has K-J for live cards…

He bricks the turn and river and heads out!!

Tony now has a stack of around 85,000.

Kully Doubles! – 12/04/2013 – 22:15

On a flop of As–Qd–Js, Kuljinder Sidhu & Tony Cartwright check to Ian Senior who bets 4,000.

Tony makes the call before Kully squeezes all in!! Ian passes, Tony then asks for a count. It’s 14,500 more….

Tony thinks after a few minutes and tables 3s-4s for the flush draw. Kully shows A-10 for top pair.

The turn and river are both bricks!!

Kully gets a much needed double up and now has around 45,000 and looking rather less bored than he was below…

Running Up That Hill! – 12/04.2013 – 22.05

Mike Hill has short stacked Jasdip Basra just where he wants him. Praying to the Poker Gods. 3 bet jam by Basra with J-9 is not the best hand against the Rockets!. Mike taps the table when the board runs out Q-5-4-9-2.

Da Bookie  rakes in the pot and moves just north of 60k during the final level.Mike Hill

A Spade Gets Him Out Of It – 12/04/2013 – 19:52

I look over to table one to see blind on blind Rocky Gupta all in with Ah-4s vs the pocket fours of Rob Boon. Rocky will need to hit an ace to survive.

The flop comes 9s–6c–10s.

The turn comes the six of spades, giving Rocky counterfeit outs and a flush draw.

The river card is the Queen of Spades.

Rocky hits a spade on the river to get him out of a hole. He  doubles up to 13,500.

On a board of 10–A–4–8–7 board with 3 clubs, there was around 3000 in the middle, Greg Garrett bets, Rob Boon instantly moves all in for 6500. Greg quickly calls tabling Qc-Jc for the flush, the hand Rob was trying to represent. He mucks and then says can I still re enter. Which he can, so he now takes his seat on another table.

George Gets There – 12/04/2013 – 17:30

I get to the table on a flop of A–9–4, its a three bet pot between two of the biggest stacks in the room George Oghani and Luke Reeves.

George leads out into the 2200 pot, betting 1800. Luke comes in for a raise making it 5675. George quickly calls.

The turn card comes a Queen…

George again leads out… this time for a huge 12,500. Luke counts out his stack, he is playing around 30,000…. he then moves all in!!

George asks for a count, it’s 16,000 more. He makes the call.

Luke is in great shape for the huge pot with A-9 for two pair against the A-K of George.

The river is a KING!!!!

George gets their on the river, bangs the table, then says sorry to Luke. He takes the chip lead pot and now has 95,000!! Only 4k short of yesterdays chip lead.

Sick for Luke Reeves as he heads out of the tournament.

6 Betting is the way……. To get eliminated! – 12/04/2013 – 14.38

Steve Holden and Andy Taylor get involved in a raising war, with neither backing down.. All the money ends up in the middle after Steve 6 bet just enough to put Andy all in.. As the cards are flipped over, the table is quite surprised to see the Pocket 5’s  Andy is holding. Steve delightfully spreads Queens on the felt. No sweat as Andy heads out. Maybe to consider a re-entry. Holden has 52k and is chip leader as it stands.

Where Garrett Got His Stack… – 12/04/2013 – 14:23

I’ve just been told at the break by Andy Booth that we lost a player on his table. He has raised it up with A-Q, Greg Garrett made the call before John Hall three bet, both Andy and Gregg made the call. The flop came 5–6–8. Greg and John got into a raising war, which Andy was quite happy to watch folding his hand. The two players would get it all in on this flop.

John was in serious trouble tabling ACES against the mighty 4-7 of Greg for the flopped straight.

John would be left with only 700 chips and would be eliminated the very next hand.

….and that is where Greg Garrett got his top three stack from.

Level Three – 12/04/2013 – 14:17

The players are back from boring each other with poker stories and are ready to start level three.

Blinds are 75/150.

.

.

Big Stacks! – 12/04/2013 – 14:10

Well as we have only lost one player there are not that many big stacks around the tables, these players are leading the way…

IMG_6093

Lisa Hawkes (above) – 39,000
Stuart Rutter – 35,000
Gregg Garrett – 35,000
George Oghani – 35,000
Steve Holden 33,000

.

.

Break Time!! – 12/04/2013 – 14:05

As the level comes to a close the players are now on their first 15 minute break. We have still only lost the one player.

.

.

Rutter Doubles!! – 12/04/2013 – 13:58

I have just been told Stuart Rutter has doubled up to 37,000!! All in pre flop with ACES, Barry Grime was his unlucky opponent with A-K. Stuart is now one of the chip leaders while Barry has been left with 10,000.

.

.

Lost One! – 12/04/2013 – 13:52

We have lost our first player today!! That player is Masud Prodhan. He can no take up his option to re-enter if he wants to play for the £62,500 prizepool that has been generated so far.

After a look round his table it looks as though George Oghani got most of his stack and is now up to 36,000.

.

.

Alternates – 12/04/2013 – 13:50

Alternates still coming through the door as we now have 125 runners. The most recent ones are…

Julian Thew
Mike Hill
Thomas Hall
Alan Trueick
Tsun Wong
Andrew Taylor
Shane Gregory
Amir Dandanfard

Six Bet Fold – 12/04/2013 – 13:35

I get to the table as Jamie Sykes as put in a three bet to 800, I missed the open from the other player in the hand Nathan Farnaby. Nathan then four bets to 1525. The cogs go to work in Jamies head deciding what to do, he then five bets to 2850.

Action is now back on Nathan who doesn’t let the foot off the pedal six betting to 4150, as soon as the chips hit the felt Jamie throws his chips across the line, putting Nathan all in!!

Nathan exhales and lets his hand go.

Jamie takes the pot and is up to 30,000.

Nathan is down to 8,000.

Level 1 update!! – 12/04/2013 – 13

Well if all levels were like the first we could be in for a long day two.. I have to say I think it was the most uneventful start to a GukPT leg we can remember.

The only thing to report is that the numbers have increased to 61, with the prize pool currently standing at £60,000.
Blinds up… 50-100

The Biggest Ever!! – 12/04/2013 – 12:40

In come Julian Thew and Mike ‘Da Bookie’ Hill to join the field. With their entries we have 59 players so far today. That’s 117 total for the two days. This means that this has become the biggest £500 Main Event the GukPT has ever held. Beating all the events last year. Bolton was the biggest last year with 114 entries, so we have eclipsed that.

Late registration is open till the end of level 6. So the sky is the limit….

Day 1a is Over!! – 11/04/2013 – 22:38

The last five hands were uneventful on all three tables. So we have finished the day with 22 players. A good turnout of  players considering we only started the day with 29 players, we finished with 59 entries. Tomorrow will be much busier and I can see quite a lot of re-entries tomorrow as the prizepool increases.

Nigel Ventre is the over night chip leader from Day 1a. Full Chip Count to follow.

From everyone here at the GukPT, we will see you tomorrow for a noon start. Don’t be late.

Last Five hands! – 11/04/2013 – 22:31

The clock has been paused with 12 minutes left to play, the players will be playing five more hands and then we will be done for the day.

.

.

Tim Takes One From Orrin – 11/04/2013 – 22:25

Terry Etim makes it 1750 to play pre flop, David Orrin three bets to 3750, Tim Hickling then enters the pot cold four betting from the button to 6,500. Terry gets out of the way and David flat calls.

The flop comes 5–3–3. Both players opt to check.

The turn card comes a 6. David fires out 5125, which Tim calls.

The river card a four. David again fires a bet at Tim this time 10,050.

Tim goes into the tank, counts out the bet, if he is wrong after making the call he will only be left with 15,000. Tim checks his cards about 5 times before making the call. David mucks, surrendering the pot to Tim who tables pocket Jacks. David is left with 35,000. Tim is up to 75,000.

.

.

Sloooowwwwwwwww! – 11/04/2013 –  22:15

Nothing to report during the last level. As always the clock will pause before time runs down. All tables will then play a certain number of hands to determine the end of play. Current chip leader is Eirimas Ivonas who has 100k minus a few hundred!

.

.

Short Stacks Bust! – 11/04/2013 – 22

Only 30 minutes left to play now and action has become very cagey! Two players who were short stack coming into the last level of play were Suresh Handa & Daniel Fletcher.

Dan being taken out 2 minutes ago by Skullman who held 5-5 on a 5–3–X–X–3 board for a full house, I failed to see Dans hand before it was mucked.

We are down to 22 players.

.

.

Terry Owens Exit – 11/04/2013 – 21:55

.

.

Lost One – 11/04/2013 – 21:45

After 15 minutes of play in level 9 we lose a player, that playing being Nicola Stylianou, he lost the last lot of his chips to run good Peter Wigglesworth. Who is now up to 55,000.

.

.

Level 9 – 11/04/2013 – 21:30

Players are back seated as we begin the final level of today. They are now 400/800 with a 100 ante.

Ruthless For Rawnsley – 11/04/2013 – 20:59

On a flop of 7d–2d–4d David Rawnsley gets his 8k stack in the middle against Ben Winsor who quickly calls.

David… 7-7 for top set, Ben tables Ad–8d for the nut flush! David will need the board to pair to survive.

The turn and river are both bricks. Ben takes the pot.

Sick for David as he heads out. Other players have also been eliminated from the other tables, they are Carol Everton & Mark Hughes.

We are now down to three tables.

.

.

Owens Doubles! – 11/04/2013 – 20:50

Terry Owens, who at the last break was chip champ, has just doubled to 20k!! Not knowing what happened to the stack of Owens may be the best thing, but I did get to see him calling a 3 bet shove by Carol Everton.
Terry turning over J-10 on a K-2-J flop. Carol shoving light with A-9!. Carol drops down to 5k with no help on the turn or river, as Owens starts the road back to glory.

.

.

Very Quiet – 11/04/2013 – 20:33

All is quiet on the tournament cloor at the minute. 20 minutes into level 8 and we still have 31 players going strong.

Steve Diamonds who is playing around 10,000 makes it 2800 to play over a limper, action comes to Victor Ilyukhin, the only player Steve has covered on the table. He  moves all in for his 6k stack, the limper passes and Steve makes the call.

Victor is crush tables 10d-7d against the A-10 of Steve.

The flop brings two diamonds giving Victor the flush draw as Steve says “Oh, here we go…”

The turn and river are both bricks.

Steve takes the pot and is now close to starting stack, Victor on the other hand heads out!

.

.

Just Quads!! -11/04/2013 – 20.10

Guy Webster stands alone at the re entry point, only to realize he has to return tomorrow for a second chance. Flopping the nut flush and seemingly heading for a double up, he runs into David Bolton who manages to fop a set of Kings. It all went wild as the turn card was the magical case King. “Nice Hand” is mumbled as we lose another. David is now chip leader on 70k.

.

Full Steam Ahead! – 11/04/2013 – 19:52

We aren’t just concentrating on 1 player, but Pete Wigglesworth is writing his own headlines!
After getting back to starting stack, he then gets Skullman in a head lock that he fails to get out of. Hitting the full house on the turn, Pete, in his words “Let him catch up!” Skullman then hits the nut flush on the river and Peter gets a full double  up…
Now standing on 36k. Skullman is on 25k.

.

Total Runners – 11/04/2013 – 19:42

Ilyukhin Shoving! – 11/04/2013 – 19

Craig Heaton makes it 700 to play from first position, Terry Owens calls from the button. Action then comes to Victor Ilyukhin in the big blind who three bets to 2500.

Craig checks out Victors stack then clicks it back making it 5500. Terry gets out of the way…

Victor then snap moves all in for around 28,000!! Craig quickly folds and Victor takes the pot. No cards were shown.

Terry then takes one of his head phones out and says to Craig “You should of called, we could of seen a flop”

Wiggy,Wiggy,Wiggy,Wiggy…       11/04/2013 – 18:40

So as we saw, Pete Wigglesworth telling us of his woes and how is down to 2700… Here’s the story since. He doubles up to 5000, then gets it in again with Aces against K-Q on a K-Q-x flop, dodges bullets to double up to just over 10,000.. Then the Poker Gods shine down in Didsbury as he stares exit in the face. All in with A-K v Aces!!! Can he possibly do it again and get to starting stack? Of course he can as he hits Broadway to smash the Aces.. The Wiggy Bandwagon is on the March!

Floor Action… – 11/04/2013 – 18:22

Floor action you say?? I wish there was some to report. After 15 minute stood in the middle of two tables the only hand that I managed to see was Mark Hughes getting his 5525 stack all in pre flop with pocket Jacks against the A-J of Nicolas Stylianou. Jacks held and Mark got a much needed double up.

Apart from that nothing is happening on the cardroom floor. All is pretty quiet as we are nearly half way through level 6. Which is the last level to buy in or re-enter.

.

.

Level 6 – 11/04/2013 – 18:07

Skullman v Houghton – 11/04/2013 – 17:45

I can see this duel ending in tears for one of them. But at the moment,  small pot poker is being played, so as yet no real danger. Skullman the benefactor of the latest coming together. The board coming runner runner hearts as the board shows 10-3-6-6-8. Kev leads out for 1000 getting raised to 2750 by Skullman. Call says Kev, with K-Q hh for the second nut flush. In the Muck go Houghton’s cards. Skullman up to 30k, while Kev drops to 45k.

 .

.

Cinquemani Confused? – 11/04/2013 – 17:20

In a three bet pot on table five between Jimmy Cinquemani and Jamie ‘Boz’ O’Connor, the flop comes A–J–4.

Jimmy checks to Jamie who bets 900 which is quickly called as Jimmy flick two green 500 chips into the middle (you know the way all the young kids try to do).

The turn card brings a three, which is quickly checked by both players involved.

The river card is a Queen.

Jimmy leads out this time betting 2600 which is nearly full pot. Boz needs all of 15 seconds thinking time before throwing his 12,100 all in, putting the pressure on Jimmy.

Concentration time, Jimmy postures up studying the board, you could just imagine the little mouse running at mac three inside his head. He counts what he has behind which is about 14k. He then folds. Boz takes the pot moving up to 19,000.

DSCF1305

Jimmy seems confused by Boz’s all in on the river as he is still talking bout it two hands later.

.

.

Level 5 – 11/04/2013 17:05

Players are back seated after the buffet.

.

.

Slade Out!! – 11/04/2013 -15:13

Nick Slade who was chip leader with double starting stack after three hands has now been eliminated in less than three levels.

On his way out of the cardroom, fag in mouth Slade looked up to me and said “I am never playing this f***ing game again!!” I’m sure that statement isn’t entirely true and he will be on the cash tables later on tonight.

.

.

Slade Sliding!  – 11/04/2013 –  15

So after a terrific start, Nick Slade is down to 4k!! Playing his usual style he loses a couple of big hands that get him back to starting stack, after rising to 40k during the first level.. Only being shouted over after the carnage, he looks up and stares!

Some notable counts from other tables ..

Rob Sherwood… 42k

Skullman… 38k

Jon Eames.. 16k

Just before the first break of the day we lose Amir Dandanfard. No hand details, but Yanev Yani was scooping in the chips and sits pretty on 48k.

The Champ Is Here! – 11/04/2013 – 13:35

Jamie O’Connor is the only previous GukPT Main Event Champion we have so far in todays field. He took down GukPT Luton last season for £45,000.  Boz is one of the most aggressive players who I have seen and will literally play any two cards. A fantastic player to watch.

Another Early Exit! – 11/04/2013 – 13.29

Walking to table 4, I’m handed the player ID card of Alan Fellows. As he is now sitting on another table, he has re-entered the Comp! Asking Rob Bright what happened, he just said, he played just about every hand and everyone got something!

Level Two – 11/04/2013 13:05

Well we have played an hour, which means we will now start level two. Blinds are now 50/100.

Cardroom Shot – 11/04/2013 – 12:58

As we know, 1a is always the quieter day of  the two starting days. The numbers have increased since the start of play and with 6 levels of late registration and re-entries, the field will increase more as the day goes on.

Enter John Eames – 11/04/2013 12:55

John Eames, fresh from his EPT side event win last month in London for just short of £100k has entered the building and took his seat on table two.

Eames is one of the most well respected players in the UK and has over $1,600,000 live tournament earnings and nearly $2,000,000 in online tournament earnings. He lives just up the road. So thought he would come to play this fantastic event which is right on his doorstep.

Lost One!! – 11/04/2013 12:45

Well after going to investigate, it was on table five where we have lost our player first player. Algirdas Petronis being the first man to be eliminated. Nick Slade taking the lot off him. Slade is now chip leader, doubling his start stack to 40,000!!

He is probably not who you want to give your chips too.
