.

.

Shotting Vodka!! – 28/03/2013 22:15

Shotting straight Vodka is not my thing while playing poker, I’m more of a fosters man, but it seems to be working for Vilius Semanas. Who finished second last year and is still in with 11 remaining.

Biggest Pot Of The Tournament – 28/03/2013 21

Some serious button clicking on table twelve between Tim Shaw and Han Zhang.

Tim opened from the small blind, Han three bet from the big blind to 75,000. Tim then four bet to 180,000. Han five bet shoved and after a few minutes Tim painfully made the call with pocket queens!! Han tabled A-9 and would need help.

The help was found on the flop as it come 2–A–8.

The Bubble Has Burst!! – 28/03/2013 16:50

The bubble has burst after only one hand!! Kyle Roberts who didn’t turn up today was left with just one ante on the bubble. His hand is killed because he is not at his seat so he is the bubble boy!!!!

IMG_5795

In the other cardroom we also had an all in and a call. Valentin Krug was the man at risk with 9-8 against the A-J of Adam Newman. Valentin flopped an 8 which was good enough for him to double to 100k. Adam is left with just 35k, but has made the money!!

Well done to everyone who has cashed!!!

.

.

Bubble Time!! – 28/03/2013 16:40

Butchered!! – 28/03/2013 16:25

Matt Butcher who was one of the chip leaders 15 minutes ago has just lost a three way all in. Calling two short stacks with A-K, they held A-9 and K-Q. He somehow managed to come third in the hand losing 100,000 from his stack.

I take a look at his table again and he again calls an all in, this time with Q-Q and runs into the ACES of Dean Gilbert (below). Aces holding for Dean who doubles to 300,000!!

IMG_5778

Matt is now down to 155,000.

Double For Shaw – 28/03/2013 15:45

I get to the table as the board reads 10–7–2 all hearts, there is around 90,000 in the middle. The two players involved are Tim Shaw and James Gray. Tim is all in for 27,000. After tanking for a few minutes James makes the painful call and turns over Aces, it’s no good as Tim has already flopped the nuts, tabling Ah-Qh.

The turn and river are both bricks and Tim takes the pot. Doubling up to 150,000!! James is left with 75,000.

The flop comes 10c–4c–8s. Adam flops the nuts with top set.

The turn card is the Queen of clubs, giving Simon a flush draw.

The river is the Queen of spades.

Adam rivers the full house to double to just under 40,000.

Action back to David Chatterjee who has only just bought into the tournament and is playing his first hand, he thinks What would Doyle Brunson do, then calls off his stack with the mighty 10-2!!

102

Jody tables ACES and Darren Tables Jacks.

They are both smashed!! As the board runs out 8–9–10–2–K!!!

IMG_5558

David trebles up to 45,000!! Jody takes the side pot of 9k, Darren is left with just 6,000.

Dan Henley gets it all in on a flop of A–4–4 with 4-5 more or less the nuts in a raised pot, unless his opponent has pocket aces. His oppenent Julien Saulet tables A-7 and Dan is in great shape for a double.

The turn are river are both bricks and Dan is back in the game, up to 10,000.

Joseph Ellis
Michael Poon
Jack Hayfield
Williams Holden

Alternates Getting Restless – 27/03/2013 15:33

The alternates are getting restless here in Coventry some of them thinking they might not get in to play. Others complaining it’s not fair some players who bust Day 1a will get to play again and they might not get in to even play at all. Whose fault is it?? It’s their own fault! Registration has been open for months online to book your seat.

It’s the same with any tournament, if you don’t get in, there’s only one person to blame and that is yourself.

On the other hand, four alternates will snow be smiling as we lose Craig Castles, Alistir Cessford, Ross Tismond & James Stonehill from the field, freeing up four more seats.

.

.

High Roller Champion!! – 27/03/2013 15:25

The high roller champion Simon Priddis who shipped the high roller last night for nearly £3000 is was playing today before he bust out. I’m sure he has joined the alternate list, but might struggle to get in.

Roddy McNeil from Glasgow Uni is no longer is the tournament. All in with A-K and ran into the KINGS of Alex Barnwell. Despite flopping a gut shot straight draw. Roddy couldn’t get there and heads out!! Alex on the other hand is going well on 30,000.

Sick Bucket Anyone? – 27/03/2013 14:20

I get to the table as the board reads 5–Q–2–10 with 2 clubs.

There is an all in and a call between the two James’, James Stonehill & James Adams.

Stonehill is ahead with A-Q against Adams Q-6 of clubs, top pair with a flush draw.

The river card is not a club, but it is a SIX giving James Adams (right) two pair. He survives doubling up to 16k.

James Stonehill (left) is left with 6k.

IMG_5416

.

.

Level Three –  27/03/2013 14:11

Blinds Up as we begin the third level of today. They are now 75/150.

Only one more player to have exited the tournament. That player being Matthew Forester.

.

.

The Record Has Been Broken!!! – 27/03/2013 13:58

With the 206 entries we got yesterday. Added to the 165 players we have today that means we have already broke the record of 358 that was set in 2011!!!!

I’m guessing that this tournament could now attract 450 in total!! The only thing holding it back is the place to fit them all!!

.

Gologan Gets There! – 27/03/2013 13:45

I reach the table to see a flop of Jh–10h–8s.

There is four players in the pot. The first player is Edward Hughes, he bets 400 into a pot of 3500. Ross MacDonald calls the 400. Matthew Dudley comes in for a raise making it 1250.  Petre Gologan then also enters the pot with a raise, making it 2500!! Things getting a bit crazy now, especially for level two. Ross & Matt get out of the way. Matthew calls and we are heads up.

The turn cards comes the bingo card 7h. Both flush and straight draws hitting.

Matthew checks to the aggressor who bets 3200, which he calls.

The river card is the 5 of diamonds.

Matthew checks and Petre checks behind.

Matthew tables J-10 for top two but that’s no good as Petre got their on the turn tabling 3h–4h for the flush.

He takes the huge pot as Matt is down to around 6k.

Level 2 – 27/03/2013 13:20

Blinds up as we begin level 2. They are now 50/100.

We lost five players in total in level 1. The other four being, Adam Zameer, Oliver Pilkington, Chi Yau & Ryan Hunt.

That means the alternates list has become four players shorter.

.

.

Day 1b –  27/03/2013 13:10

I apologise for the late start of the blog as the site has been down for 45 minutes. Players are seated and have nearly finished the first level. We are bursting at the seems with a full capacity of 150 players. There is also a list of 50 players waiting on the alternates list to get in.

We have lost one player in the first level, which is one more than yesterday, his name is Peter Brankin.

It should be a fantastic days poker here on Day 1b. Will anyone be able to catch Andy Symeou who finished with a huge stack of 392,000!!!

Double For Stewart 26/03/2013 17:02

IMG_5136

Callum Stewart gets his 7k and change all in pre vs the pocket sixes of Damon Wilson, who re-shoved  over Callums shove to get him heads up. It’s a class coinflip for the just short of 20k pot as Callum tables Ad-Kd against the pocket sixes of Damon.

The flop comes ten high with two diamonds, giving Callum the nut flush draw.

The turn card is a queen, giving him four more outs with a gut shot straight draw…surely he cannot miss…

He doesn’t miss as the river comes a diamond, sending the pot his way.

Damon is crippled and exits the tournament two hands later.

Smith Stacking – 26/03/2013 15:45

After a wander around the table I stop at table nine to see a hand played out between Andrew Hanak & Nicholas Smith.

Andrew makes it 525 to play pre flop and finds one called in Smith, who has the magical button helping him along in the hand.

They see a flop of Q–3–8.

Andrew leads out for 1,000 and is quickly called by Nicholas.

I doubt the turn card improves either players hand and it comes the four of clubs.

Andrew continues the aggression firing another 2,000 at Nicholas who again quickly calls.

The river comes the 10 of clubs, putting three clubs on the board.

Andrew fires the third and final bullet, this time doubling his turn bet, as he makes it 4,000. Nicholas spreads his stack, which is dirtier than a piece of coal. He pulls the 4k out and makes the call.

“Good call” says Andrew who goes to muck. Nicholas tables K-Q for top pair and takes the 15,000 pot.

Fantastic Atmosphere –  26/03/2013 14:38

With a small buy in and no one over 40 falling asleep at the table it makes for a fantastic atmosphere here at the G. Everyone is in good spirits and they are playing poker how it should be played, with a smile on your face, some smiles bigger than others. Someone who is extremely happy to be here is Thomas Deans on table 15..

Lost One!! – 26/03/2013 13:45

The first cry of lost one from the tournament floor after 65 minutes of play. That player being Joseph Robinson from table three.

IMG_5194

He is the first player to be eliminated from the tournament and I am guessing he will be the first player to re-enter, or he could take up the option to play tomorrow instead. After a look at the table it looks as though David Spring got most of them as he is up to 32,000.

What the Heck! – 26/03/2013 13:20

I am shocked to report after 45 minutes of poker I am yet to see ANYONE with an alcoholic drink, which is very unlike students in my experience. Something that is very much like students, is that instead they are all drinking the FREE coke.

On a totally unrelated note to that and back to the poker, the blinds are up to 50-100 as we begin level 2. The cardroom is at max capacity now as we have 150 players.

The High Roller! – 26/03/2013 13:10

There was a high roller yesterday, which attracted a very impressive 112 players, considering they were only really expecting around 50 players, so to get double is a fantastic turnout!! The final tablists will be coming back today, to battle it out for the £3,500 that is up top. I will try and get you the remaining players and chip counts as soon as possible.

At the moment I am working on todays seating plan, which should be up within the next 15 minutes.

UK Student Poker Championships – 26/03/2013 12:25

The GukPT Updating team are here this week in the gorgeous G Casino in Coventry, under the Ricoh arena. We are here to cover the UK Student Championships with is sponsored by the GukPT this year.

300 players turned up last year representing 30 different universities.  Lewis Hield (below) from Sussex University taking it down for £2,190. With just a £30 buy in it’s affordable for all students and has a great following.

student 2012

This year is the first year the Championships will have a re-entry. So each player can enter twice if they want. Having two bullets means we should smash the record of 358 that this tournament attracted in 2011.

The player list has just been posted onto the screens round the cardroom. The tournament should be starting in 5 minutes.
