Julian Davies Champion in Cardiff – 31/05/2015 – 22:59
After four days poker the GUKPT Cardiff now has a new main event champion in Julian Davies.
171 entries turned out over the two starting days which was exactly the same as last year, meaning an overlay of £14,500 for the players to enjoy. A second overlay in a row though, might mean Cardiff won’t be a stop on the tour next year in my opinion. Despite it being a great place to play poker and visit, I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t want to travel here, it’s brilliant.
Today we began at noon, with nine players remaining and it seems like it’s been a longer day than usual, I think slightly to do with the fact we were spoilt in Edinburgh where James Mitchell had cleaned up by 6.
The first player to bust today was Kyle Hyman, he started the day as the short stack and got his chips in early holding against the
of Joanne Ramsden who turned
to take the pot. Kyle would leave in 9th for £2,500.
Greg Barratt would be the next player to leave, losing a huge coinflip against Bashir Ahmed. Gregg holding and couldn’t hold against the
of Bash, despite turning a Jack because Bash rivered a Nine to the delight of the crowd. Eight place would be good for Greg to collect £2,800.
In 7th place we lost Dan Owston who made a call for all his stack on a flop holding
, unfortunately Dan ran into Rais Khan holding
for the flopped flush. Dan was drawing dead going to the river. His deep run would get him £3,300.
The crowd favourite would unfortunately take his fans with him as he went out in 6th place. Bashir Ahmed all in with but ran into the
of Owain. No Jack and Bash would collect £4,200 for his efforts.
The players were then five handed for over three hours as the chips went back and fourth, the chip lead and short stack changing multiple times.
Rais Khan would be the unfortunate one to finish in 5th place. All in with an open ended straight. He hit it on the river, but unfortunately so did Owain. We lost the most fun player at the table as Rais left with a smile on his face to the cashier for a cheque for £5,800.
The players were then quick to drop. Joanne got her ten bigs in the middle with but ran into the
of Julian. No four on the board, which meant Joanne Ramsden would finish in fourth for £8,400, a fantastic effort.
Joe Keegans had the biggest rollercoaster out of any player today, up to 1.5million, down to 150,000, back up to 1 million. He got his final 400,000 in the middle holding against the
of Owain. A Jack on the flop would give Owain the pot and send Joe to the rail. A great effort from Joe, 3rd would be good for a five figure score, £12.500.
Heads up went on for a good couple of hours with the the chip lead changing hands, but Julian seemed to be getting the better of the exchanges. Owain was down to 15 bigs and got it in pre with but ran into the
of Julian. The aces held and it was all over!! The players did a deal so Owain took home £24,500 and Julian would take £25,000. A great result for both players.
It’s been a great event here in Cardiff, ran like absolute clockwork and has been well attended by the locals. I really hope we come back here next year because it’s a great city with fantastic people. It’s also good to see the trophy stay in Wales.
I hope you have enjoyed the coverage over the last four days and will join us again in a month time from Reading, either at the tables or online. You tuning in to what we do is what makes it special.
Thanks again guys and until next time, be lucky.
