Trigg Takes Down Blackpool – 10/11/2013 – 22:20

After 8 hours of play we have a new GukPT Blackpool Main Event Champion. That player is none other than Rick Trigg!! At his third attempt at a main event final table. He already had a second and third to his name and now he has that trophy!!

We started with 16 players and it was 45 minutes into play before we lost our first player. The short stack of the day Richie Pearson, one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet got it in with A-J but ran into the pocket Jacks of Caicai. Richie left us in 16th for a £2,300 payout.

We then lost local player Yusuf Erdam who turned his satellite seat into a £2,300 score. Caicai also taking the last of his chips. Derek Leach would finish 14th running into local legend Kyle Hendry who took all his chips. Derek would leave with £2,800.

A double elimination, one on each table would then leave us on the final table bubble. Lee Taylor on one table and Dahe Liu on the other. Lee taking £2,800 while Dahe got £3,400.

The final table bubble would last just two hands, on the second one Syed Zaidi shoved with 9-7 and ran into Caicai who called him with K-10. She would hit a full house to go into the final table as HUGE chip leader.

The final was one of the best of the season. So swingy with the chip lead changing times so many different times.

The first player to be eliminated on the final table was Dan Pope. Shoving on a board of only to be snapped off by Trigg who showed him a set of tens, that would leave Dan drawing dead with and off he was to the cash desk to collect £4,600.

Geordie Adam Forsyth would finish in 8th place after making his second final table of the season. Shoving his short stack in with A-5 which was unable to beat the J-7 of spades of Trigg who hit a flush. Adam cashed for £6,200.

In 7th place we would lose two time Sunday Million Winner Kev Steele he would take home £7,900 after shoving with Q-J and running into the Kings of John Haigh. A fantastic performance from the man from Preston.

Majid Khan got his last chips in with Queens and would unfortunately run into Caicai who was hitting everything. She held A-3 and flopped two pair. A great grinding performance from Majid who took home £10,200 for 6th.

Local favourite Kyle Hendry would leave in 5th as his 9-9 would be unable to beat the A-6 of Trigg who turned two pair and rivered a house. Kyle would take home £12,400.

After chips went round the table with a few of the player doubling up Caicai was left short stack, she got it in with J-10 but couldn’t out-flip the pocket sevens of John Miller. Another fantastic performance from Caicai Huang who took home £16,400 for fourth place.

The three men would then go at. All relatively small until John Miller tried a HUGE bluff on John Haigh who had a set. Very unlucky for John who would leave a few hands later in 3rd place for £27,600. A great effort for the man who always has a smile on his face.

The two heads up players then dealt and split the money straight down the middle.

Heads up lasted about 45 minutes before John tried a bluff at the wrong time, Trigg made a very tough call but it was the right one to crown him GukPT Blackpool Champion.

It’s been a fantastic event as it always is and has been very well attended.

We will be back in two weeks for the £400k GTD grand final in the Vic. It’s going to be a big one. I hope you enjoyed all the coverage this week and will join us in London.

Haigh Leads Going Into Final Day – 09/11/2013 – 23:05

Well after 9 levels of play players have signed for their stacks and we are done for the night. We started the day with 91 players and it never looked likely that we would reach the final 9. It’s been an up an down day. It started with madness then when we got about 5 off the money it quietened down a lot. Although the bubble only lasted one hand which was quite surprising. It then turned into madness again as the short stacks tried to double up.

John Haigh will go into the final day as the chip leader after taking a sick pot from Jamie O’Connor with QUADS against Boz’s full house.

Defending Champ Going Strong – 09/11/2013 – 15:32

In the seven year life of the GukPT Tour no one player has ever successfully defended their title and to be honest I don’t think many have come close. Could Simon Deadman be that man?? He is still in with around 90,000 chips with 55 left here in Blackpool. There is a long way to go just yet but he has a chance to do it. With already 5 GukPT Main Event final tables to his name. Can he make it a sixth?

Rick Trigg was one of the first players out today, but he re-entered and has finished the day on top with a massive 120,000. He will be the overall chip leader going into Day 2 tomorrow. Chip Counts are as follows.

Sick River For Cheung – 08/11/2013 – 19:12

I get to the table on a board of with a pot of around 25,000

William Cheung is all in and there are two players still in the hand. They are Terry Owens & Ludo Jonsen.

There is no side pot and Terry moves all in for 18425, Ludo goes deep into the tank thinking about what Terry could be shoving with…. eventually he announces fold.

Terry tables for two pair but is behind as Willie shows

The river card comes !!!!!!!! Terry hits a two outer rivering a full house to take the pot and eliminate Willie.

Ludo then says “That’s probably the worst play I’ve seen in two weeks” I’m sure Terry isn’t bothered about that though, as he scoops the pot and now has around 45,000 chips.

I get to the table as the board reads there is around 7,000 in the pot and Joseph Rafferty has bet 3,000, Ryan Spittles throws all his big chips into the middle announcing all in!! The action comes back to Joseph who has around 6,000 behind, he says “okay lets go” and puts them across the line.

Ryan confidently tables which has the of Joseph crushed.

The river card hits the cross bar as it comes .

£500 per Hand – 08/11/2013 – 15:55

I’ve just seen Ludo Jonsen floating around and asked him if he is not playing. He repsonds with I’ve already played. I folded my small blind and got knocked on my big blind.
After checking his facebook Albert Sapiano was the man who got him, rivering a 10 for trips against Ludo’s top pair. Him and a few others have come down from Scotland so I’m guessing he will probably have another bullet at it.

Old Warriors – 08/11/13 – 15:47

With the new breed of poker player hitting the felt over the past 3 or 4 years, it’s great to see people around the tables that have been playing the circuit for a number of years. Charlie Denton and Mick Fletcher are sat across from each other and have just played out a small pot. Charlie catching the back door flush to take the pot.

Both these 2 guys have made final tables of the GukPT in previous years and is great to see them still playing poker around the country.

Mick(Below) is sat with just over 45k, while Charlie is also above average with 38k.

Hickling Gets Paid – 08/11/2013 – 14:30

Tim Hickling opens the action making it 350 to play, Jamie Rutherford then three bets to 800. Tim four bets to 2150, Jamie takes little time before making the call.

The  two players go to the flop as it comes

Tim is first to act and he bets 1650, Jamie quickly calls.

The turn card pairs the board as it falls .

Tim again fires, this time 3100, which Jamie calls again.

The river card comes putting three diamonds out there.

Tim counts his stack, he has 11,000 left, he throws it into the middle!! Jamie lets out a sighhhh and slumps back in his chair, looking uncomfortable with the shove the two players have a bit of a stare off. Jamie checks his cards again and then makes the call.

Tim tables for a full boat!! That’s good for a full double up as Jamie flashes   and flicks them into the muck.

Jamie is down to 5k while Tim is up to 40k.

First Elimination – 08/11/2013 – 13:20

I have just been handed the first ID card of the day. That corresponds to the name Marc Hunter who is the first player to be eliminated 15 minutes into level 2 of Day 1b.

After a look round table two it seems no one player got his chips. John Bousfield has chipped up to about 27,000 and Darren Grosevenor has around 28,000. Kev Steele is also up to 25,000, so it seems they were splashed around. Although I could be wrong.

The three players go to the flop as it comes

Gary leads out for 1500, Julian makes the call and Maimunah folds.

The turn card comes . Gary opts to check Julian bets 2700 and Gary quickly makes the call.

The river card is

Gary checks again, Julian flicks a 5k chip announcing a bet of 4,000. Gary checks his cards twice before making the call. He then instantly tables which is good for the pot as Julian taps the table and mucks.

Kellett won then hold the chip lead for a good 6 levels, until Richard Pearson made a late surge and would eventually finish on top of the 28 players who ended the day from the 71 entries.

Cody Busto – 07/11/13 – 18:26

All we heard was lost one. But this time it was Triple Crown winner and sponsored pro Jake Cody. We then go on to find out it was Red Aces on a triple heart flop. Majid Khan had flopped it with the 6-3 (Hearts), to send Cody back to the desk for his second bullet.

Confirmation followed soon after from the man himself.

I noticed that Steve Warburton was wearing an absolutely ridiculous looking scarf and asked why…. He replied with “it’s not quite cold enough for a coat, so a scarf is the next best thing. Also Simon Deadman won wearing a scarf so I’m going to win wearing a scarf, this is the Deadman look.”

On a board reading Andy Bradshaw bets 8,050 into a pot of around 8,000, Richard Kellett is the only other player in the hand and he is deep in the tank, after about 3/4 minutes Kellett makes the call.

Andy announces flush and then tables for just queen high. Kellett shows for just one pair of kings which is good for the pot.

Andy then says “How can you make that call” To which Kellett comes up with one of the best replies I’ve heard in a while, “because I’m good at the game!” He certainly is good at the game and is one of the chip leaders heading into the dinner break with 55,000.
