Goodbye From Reading – 23/06/2013 – 22:45

Well what a cracking that was on the final table. The chips were going back are fourth and we had at least 4 different players who held the chip lead. After 6 and a half levels of play we have a champion in James Martin.

The final table started off as a slow grind, and we didn’t lose a player for the first 90 minutes!!

The first player we would lose was Paul Dunne he three bet shove with pocket eights and ran into the pocket tens of James Martin. Paul would leave in 9th for £1,650.

PD

In 8th place for £2,270 David Lloyd would finish, after building a stack he would lose a few big hands before losing a flip vs Tim. His pocket tens were no good against Tims A-Q as he flopped trips.

IMG_6808

John Burberry who started the day as the short stack would leave the final in 7th. Shoving from the button with A-J, he ran into the A-6 of Alex Zeligman, who flopped one of his three outs. John would cash for £3,090.

JB

Alex was the next player to bust, in 6th position he would take home £3,920. Shoving from the button with A-10 and running into the pocket Kings of Jeff Kimber!!

AZ

Leaving us in 5th place would be Timotheos Timotheou, who doubled Jeff Kimber up, then James Martin before getting it in with A-6 which couldn’t beat the pocket Kings of Ellie. After holding the lead for most of the final table Tim would cash for £4,950.

DSC_3204

The fan favourite Adam ‘Buzz’ Howlett would finish in fourth place for £6,390. After starting the final second in chips, he went down to the short stack, grinded it back up and would get it in with A-Q which flipped bad against the 6-6 of Jeff.

buzzz

The three then players went into turbo mode as it all got a little crazy. Ellie doubled off Jeff first to take the chip lead, she would then double Jeff back up twice and they were level again.

Ellie then got her stack in on the flop of 10–J–6 with J-8 vs the 10-8 of James for a huge pot!! A ten would come on the turn as James hit his two outer! Ellie finished third again in a GukPT Main Event, this time taking £10,520.

ellllli

The two heads up players did a slight deal, guaranteeing themselves £1300 more than they would initially be getting, rounding it up to £18,000. Then the first hand of heads up play we had an all in and a call!! Jeff with A-J vs the 10-10 of James. The board ran out 8–7–8–6–10. With that we had a champion here in Reading! Jeff Kimber would finish in second for £18,000.

While James Martin would take home £22,640, the trophy and a grand final seat.

Welcome To The Final Day – 23/06/2013 – 13:30

Welcome back to Leg 5 of the GukPT here in Reading. We have our final 9 players coming back today to try and take down the trophy and the first place prize of just under £24,000!! We have a mix of players on the final, young & old, experienced & inexperienced. Jeff Kimber has the most experience making his 7th Main Event final table. James Martin made the final in Cardiff finishing in 8th which is the same position Alex Zeligman came when he finaled the Manchester leg earlier this year. Ellie has also finished 3rd when we went to Blankenberge last year in the GukPT Main, so this is her 7th final. As far as I know all the other players are losing their final table virginity.

The final will start at 2pm and you can view it live here

The Final 9 – 22/06/2013 – 23:50

Well after nine and a half levels of play we have reached the final 9 players. They will be coming back tomorrow to battle it out for the £23,000 first place prize. It has been a fantastic days poker with 69 players coming back to the lovely show bar here in Reading. Action kicked off thick and fast, losing over 25 players in the first 2 levels. It then calmed down quite alot.

Paul Howard was the unfortunate bubble boy losing with A-K against the pocket sixes of Adam Howlett who finished second in chips. We still have regular GukPT players, Jeff Kimber, Ellie Biessek & David Lloyd in the field, but Tim Tim leads the way with a massive stack of over 700,000!! We will be back tomorrow for a 2pm start. I hope you join us then.

Timotheos Timotheou 731000
Adam Howlett 670500
Alex Zeligman 437000
Ellie Biessek 413500
David Lloyd 328500
Jeff Kimber 228500
Paul Dunne 198000
James Martin 169000
John Burberry 118500

That is until the flop comes A–Q–A.

The turn card comes a five.

The river card hits the crossbar as it comes a Nine.

Adam Howlett takes the pot with trip aces.

Gordon Styles finishes in 10th place taking home £1,440.

In a limped pot three players see the flop of 7–6–4, they all check to see the Queen on the turn.

Paul Dunne bets 22,000 out of his 95,000 stack, both James Martin & Tim Tim call.

The river card comes a King.

Paul is first to act and he moves all in, James makes the call and Tim passes.

Paul announces “Nuts!” which is always nice as he tables 8-5 for a straight. James mucks his hand.

Short stack Paul Dunne is no longer the shortest stack in the room after being patient and getting his double up he now has just short of 200,000.

.

.

Set Over Set!! – 22/06/2013 – 17:58

I hear an all in and a call on table fourteen, I get to the table to see a board of A–2–4–Q. Paul Howard is the all in player holding pocket aces for top set. He looks good for a double up as James Williams tables 2-2 for bottom set. The river is a King.

Paul pushes his stack over the line for the dealer to count while Williams mumbles “It’s sick.” Which it really is, set over set is always brutal!

It’s not sick for Paul (right) though as he doubles to 120,000. James (left) is left with 80,000.

IMG_6779

River Saves Zeligman – 22/06/2013 – 17:22

More Eliminations – 22/06/2013 – 15:50

Danny Tran opens from the button, Balbir Pottiwal moves all in from the big blind for 30,000. and Danny makes the call. The two players are ‘flipping’ as Danny tables pocket fives against the K-9 of Balbir.

The board runs out 2–10–3–J–7.

The pair holds for Danny who takes the pot, he now has around 190,000 and is sat directly to the left of Jeff Kimber who is also stacked! We could see fireworks if these two tangle.

Balbir heads out.

On the other tables we have also lost Robert Whybrew & Hamish Morjaria as we are down to 38 players.

.

.

Kimber On Fire!! – 22/06/2013 – 15:40

Jeff Kimber makes it 4500 to play from first position and is called by four players!

The five players see the flop as it comes A–K–7.

Jeff continuation bets, making it 10,500 to play, two of the players get out of the way before Frank Moszkal moves all in for his 30,000 stack, Jeff makes the call and the cards are tabled…

Frank will need help tabling A-9 as Jeff has flopped two pair showing K-7.

The turn comes a three. River a two.

Jeff wins the pot, hitting a back door flush. He is now up to around 200,000!!

Frank is eliminated as we are down to 41 players.

.

.

Level Thirteen – 22/06/2013 – 15:30

The blinds are up as we increase them to 1,000/2,000 with a 200 ante.

We have 42 players remaining with the average stack currently standing at 78,600.

.

.

Big Pot For Ellie – 22/06/2013 – 15:16

Ellie Biessek makes it 4,000 to play pre flop and is called by Martin Holmes and a player in the big blind.

The three players go to the flop as it comes 3s–7d–Js.

The big blind player checks to Ellie who makes a continuation bet of 6,600, Martin Holmes studies her before raising to 15,500. The big blind gets out of the way and after a minute or so to think Ellie makes the call with 55,000 behind.

The turn card comes the King of diamonds.

Ellie thinks for a good minute about what to do before checking, Martin Holmes also has some time in the tank and then checks behind.

The river card is the 6 of diamonds.

Ellie is first to act and has the decision, she puts in a bet of 20,000. Martin who is playing almost the exact same stack as Ellie, about 50,000 thinks for a good two minutes before making the call.

Ellie announces flush tabling 3d–4d, hitting runner runner. She takes the pot to increase her stack to 100,000. . After having such a great start to the day Martin is back down to 40,000.

Bracelet Winner Busts – 22/06/2013 – 15:05

IMG_6685

Willie Tann who won a WSOP Bracelet in 2005 for $188,350 has just been eliminated from the tournament leaving us with 43 players. It’s been a pretty manic day so far with us losing 23 players.

Hawes Going Homes – 22/06/2013 – 14:55

I missed the action pre, but it looked like a squeeze from the big blind from Richard Hawes over a limp from Frank Moszkal and a raise from Paul Dunne, Frank makes the call and Paul passes.

It’s a coinflip as Richard tables Kh–8h against the 7-7 of Frank.

The board runs out 6–6–J–3–Q.

Sevens hold for Frank who takes the pot and now has

Richard Hawes heads out.

Tran Up over 150k – 22/06/2013 – 14:40

I hear an all in and a call on table 11. As I get to the table Terry Plummer is all in and has been called by Danny Tran on a flop of A–J–Q.

Terry holds Q-J for two pair but will need to hit as Danny tables K-10 for the nuts!!

The turn card is another Ace. The river card a 6.

Terry is eliminated while Danny is up to over 150,000.

McConachie Eliminated – 22/06/2013 – 13:32

The action is passed round to Dave McConachie in the cutoff position who pushes his big stack across the line, leaving around 10,000 behind the line. Jeff Kimber in the small blind announces call. The bet is around 29,000 which Jeff matches.

The two players then see a flop as it comes K–J–9.

Jeff is first to act and announces all in, which is called by Dave for his last 10,000.

Jeff tables J-J for middle set, while Dave will need a minor miracle tabling K-8 for top pair.

The turn card is a 10, meaning a Queen will now split the pot, giving both players a straight.

The river card is a King giving Jeff the full house.

Dave (below) heads out of the tournament.

Jeff Kimber has had a great start to the day and is up to 140,000.

Chipping Up! – 22/06/2013 – 13:25

Martin Holmes who has made 17 day twos out of 17 attempts started today with only 22,000. He has chipped up well during the first level and is already up to 80,000. Martin is free rolling after winning the rankings leader board last year. The GukPT have bought him into every event this year.

.

.

Arnold Out! – 22/06/2013 – 13:15

Martin Arnold loses a 45,000 coinflip getting it in with A-Q vs pocket 5-5 and is left with just 5,000 chips.

A few hands later he moves all in holding K-10 and runs into the A-Q of Mark Wates. Ace high holds up as Mark takes the pot.

I’m guessing Martins favourite hand isn’t A-Q today as he heads out.

The action is passed round to Richard Kellett in the small blind who moves all in for his last 7,000, he is called by Shane Brotherwood in the big blind.

Kellett will need help tabling Kh–3h against the pocket nines of Shane.

The flop comes 9h–8s–3h, Shane flops a set but Richard flops the second nut flush draw.

The turn and river are both bricks and Richard Kellet is eliminated from the field.

.

.

First Double Up – 22/06/2013 – 12:13

After 10 minutes into the first level of the day we see our first all in and a call. Madhavan Kasthuri moves all in for 17,000 after an initial open from Pat Simcoe, Pat making the call.

Madhaven is in great shape for a double up with A-Q against the K-Q of Pat.

A broadway draw comes for Pat but he misses. Ace high holds for Madhavan as he wins the pot, doubling to 37,000.

The End of Day 1b – 21/06/2013 – 23:20

.

.

Day 1b is Over – 21/06/2013 – 23

That’s it for another Day 1 here in Reading. A fantastic turn out today with 113 entries, more than anyone could ever imagine! It’s been a crazy day and we have ended with 44 players, who will be back tomorrow to fight it out on Day Two. John Burberry looks like the chip leader, but David Lloyd is up there and has been all day. Full Chip counts to follow.

.

.

3 More Down! 21/06/13 – 22:42

Martin Bader, Tina Bandyle and Ian Gwynne depart as the last level is coming to a close..

.

.

Terrible Timing For Tina – 21/06/2013 – 22:35

After a min open and a few flat calls it looks like the perfect spot for Tina Bandyle to move all in for her 35,000 stack, she is called by one of the callers and hopefully she is flipping…

Tina tables A-K and is up against the pocket Kings of Aaron Helmore, who waits for her to expose her cards before turning his over. The other players at the table discuss whether it was a slow roll or not (it wasn’t) but these two are just focusing on the board.

The board runs out 2–4–8–J–4.

The Kings hold for Aaron who takes the pot, moving up to about 80,000.

Tina is eliminated from the tournament.

.

.

Bader Busts!! – 21/06/2013 – 22:22

Martin Bader who was sitting pretty on close to 50,000 chips at the break. I get to the table and he is all in with pocket Kings up against the A-K of his opponent.

The first card out is an ACE!!

The rest of the board completes coming down A–8–J–8–6.

Martin who lost with Kings with his first bullet loses with them with his second bullet and is eliminated from the tournament.

Blood Running Good! – 21/06/13 – 21:30

John Burberry has just sent Steve Collins packing and seen his stack increases to 63k, when all the chips end up in the middle on a 8-8-2 flop.

Steve flips the Cowboys, but they are no good against Burberry’s pocket 2’s. No help on 4th street or the river as we lose another.

Kimber Busts Cooze – 21/06/2013 – 21:22

I get to the table as the flop reads 6h–3s–5h, Samuel Cooze is first to act and he moves all in for his last 8,000, Jeff Kimber then also moves all in! The other player in the hand gets out of the way and its on your backs…

Sam has top pair with an open ended straight draw as he tables 6–4.

Jeff has over cards and a flush draw showing Kh–9h.

Jeff doesn’t need to wait long as the turn card comes the Ace of Hearts, giving him the nuts!

Sam stands up and leaves the tournament as he is eliminated.

Total Numbers – 21/06/2013 – 20:55

165

That is the total number of entries for Leg 5 of the GukPT Main Event in Reading. Creating a prizepool of £82,500!!! A fantastic turnout.

Reading now becomes the busiest £500 Main Event in GukPT History!!

.

.

Blinds Up! – 21/06/2013 – 20:45

The blinds increase as we begin level 8.

They are now 300/600 with a 75 ante.

67 players remaining from the 113 entries.

.

.

Aces Cracked! – 21/06/13 – 20:40

Abdul Qayyum who bust out yesterday, has played again today with a little bit more success.

He has just taken out Chen Tam. As I get to the table, all in and a call has been shouted on a flop of 9-8-Q. Chen tables Aces, but is up against it as Abdul flops the nuts with 10-J.  4 on the turn seals the deal and even an Ace on the river can’t save Chen. Qayyum moves up nicely to 54k with the average at 33,700.

.

.

Two More Exits – 21/06/2013 – 20:28

Two more exits from the field as we lose Tina Bandyle & Mark McCluskey who were both on the second bite of the cherry.

With their eliminations we are now down to 70 players.

.

.

Gallagher Gone! – 21/06/2013 – 20:18

Stephen Bean makes it 2100 to play over a limper, David Gallagher then enters the pot, moving all in!! The action comes back to Stephen and it’s 16,775 total to call, which he makes after counting out the amount. The cards are tabled by both players and David needs help.

Stephen… As–Ks

David… Ac–Qh

The flop comes 10–2–5 all clubs, giving David the nut flush draw.

The turn card comes another 10, giving David chop pot outs.

The river card is a red four.

Stephen takes the pot to move up to 65,000. David who was one of the early chip leaders heads out of the tournament.

Bust Outs During Level 7 – 21/06/13 – 20.05

There are still 73 players playing level 7, which tells us, it’s either been slow, or every bust out has re-entered with the thought of that £82,000 prize pool!

Either way, as we walk around, we don’t seem to see any “big” hands. Just bust out cards given to us by the staff. The latest being….

Ian Francis
Ashley Smith
Joshua Massop

Timely Double up for Jaffa! – 21/06/13 – 18:37

I didn’t see the action pre, but they were on their backs, with Jeff Kimber facing elimination!.

He was in good shape though as his Aces were up against Alistair Carins’ A-Q. No bad bead story or even sweat for Jeff as he doubles to just over starting stack.

Louis Leeth-Lambert Doubles – A Tale From Facebook – 21/06/2013 – 18:35

I’ve just spotted this post on Louis Leeth-Lamberts facebook page..

L3

He has doubled up to 45,000 after finding a none believer with second pair, I’m not surprised to be honest, would you believe someone who looks like this..

IMG_6657

He is however a very good player and has travelled down from the North West with Ryan Fear & Richard Kellett this week, who are both also doing quite well in the tournament.

.

.

Level 6 – 21/06/2013 – 18:23

The price of poker increases as the players begin the 6th level of today which is the last level for late registration.

The blinds are now 150/300 with a 25 ante. We have 75 players remaining from the 106 entries we have had so far today.

.

.

Blue Blood- No Good – 21/06/13 – 18:13

One of the main guys at Blue Blood Poker, Pete Wigglesworth squeezed in the SB with 7-8. After Andy Grove limp passed, Trevor Davies limp called, turning over A-J.

Pete, who was all in for just over 4000, misses everything as we lose another. If he wants to re-enter, he has just over 1 level to decide. The question is, with £79,000 in the pot as it stands, you would think it wise to jump back in.

Action Hotting Up! – 21/06/13 – 17:48.

More eliminations at the start of level 5.

One of which sees Simon Hyde departing after getting his last 6000 in the middle on a K-J-7 (2 Diamond) flop with K-Q. Jeremy Greenwood calls, also with K-Q but he has the 2nd nut flush re draw. No hesitation as the flush hits on the turn.

We also lose Dixie Dean, Simon Priddis(2nd Time!) and Gabriel Tuna.

.

Level 5 Exits! – 21/06/13 – 17:35

Early stages of level 5 and Will Kassouf re-enters. “Nothing went right!” he said as he sits down on table 1…

IMG_6606

Also departing early in the level are Jareth East and Gareth Ainsworth. Who we were told is the Boss at Wycombe Wanderers! Not sure if it was him, but he isn’t re-entering so we can’t ask.

103 Runners!! – 21/06/2013 – 16:08

103

That is the total number of entries we have had so far today as level four comes to a close. That means we have beat the record for a £500 GukPT Main Event which was set earlier this year in Didsbury which had 153 runners in total. This event has now got 155!!!

.

Cardroom Pan – 21/06/2013 – 15:55

.

More Exits – 21/06/2013 – 15:45

Well alot more players playing today, which means alot more action as we lose four more players from the field:

Louise Plested
Blake Clark
Tina Bandyle (has since re-entered)
Simon Brooks.

We are now up to 98 players so far just from today! A massive turnout here in Reading.

.

.

Student Champ Doubles! – 21/06/13 – 15.38

Whilst talking to Jeff Kimber, I see Simon Priddiss play every hand, the last one being a hand involving Dave Gallagher.

A raise and call pre, Simon bets out 1000 on a 4-5-5 flop, double barrels on the turn when a 7 hits the table, gets 3 bet and all the money ends in the middle. He flips Kings, Dave sigh flips 8’s.  10 on the river means the very active Simon Priddis (Winner of the high roller event during the Student Championships) doubles back up to 18k. But it is his 2nd bullet today!

More Players Enter the Building – 21/06/13 – 15:24

Nice to see Jeff Kimber back playing poker.. Not that it has been too long, but the last time we saw him at a table, he bust out Quads v Quads!  He hasn’t had any drama’s just yet, but he is sat on an active table so watch this space..

.

Level Four – 21/06/2013 – 15:15

The blinds increase as we begin level four. They are now 100/200. We have 80 players remaining from the 90 players we have had entered so far today.

Cooler for Saeed! -21/06/13 – 14.55

From mid position David Lloyd raises it up and the button Oneib Saeed comes along for the ride.

The flop of 3-9-Q looks inconspicuous enough, but then a raising war sees all the chips in the middle. Pocket Queens for the original raiser, while Oneib is coolered with Q-9!

No miracle outcome as we lose another. David is sat with just over 50k.

.

A Flurry Of Exits – 21/06/2013 – 14:45

It’s all gone a little crazy in the first 20 minutes of level three as we lose 5 players from the field. They are..

Peter Arrigoni
Jeremy Brown
Rajinder Kumar
Simon Priddis
Blair Hampton

Back with the Action – 21/06/13 – 14:17

Blinds are now 75-150. 81 Players registered for today’s day 1b. Making the prize pool £69,000 with 4 more levels of late reg/re-entries.

.

.

Break Time – 21/06/2013 – 14:02

Break Time for the players as they take 15 minutes.

.

.

Early Exits – 21/06/2013 – 13:52

We have lost another two players from the field in the second level. They are Pietro Culotta & Joshua Mossop. We have 10 minutes left before we take our first break of the day.

.

.

The Button is Key – 21/06/2013 – 13:42

Action is folded round to Paul Dunne on the button who makes it 300 to play, Tina Bandyle and David Gallagher call from the blinds.

The flop comes J–4–7 all clubs. The two blinds check to the pre flop aggressor, who makes a continuation bet of 600. Tina calls the 600 and David folds.

The turn card comes another 4.

Tina again checks to Paul who bets 1200, she again quickly calls.

The river card is a 9.

Tina checks for a third and final time.

Paul doesn’t give up, firing again, 2600. Tina thinks for a minute or two before calling.

Paul shows the mighty 8-4 for trip fours which is good for the pot. Using the button to perfection he now has a stack of around 32,000.

.

.

Lost One! – 21/06/13 – 13:25

Matt Davenport from Manchester, who made it a week of playing poker by playing cash in the Vic, was yesterday sat on table 5 seat 7.

He bust out early, so fired another bullet today. Finding himself in the same seat, would he have a better day?  Unfortunately not, as it was the same outcome! Busto!  He said he may reload but is having a coffee and time to reflect on whether that is what he wants.

IMG_6586

.

.

Big Stacks – 21/06/2013 – 13:15

Well after a level of play and no eliminations not much has happened on the cardroom floor. Some players who have increased their stacks though are…

Ben Clapham – 40,000
Ben Dadon – 40,000
Adam Howlett – 38,000
David Lloyd – 37,000
David McConachie – 30,000

.

.

Blinds Up! – 21/06/13 – 13

So no eliminations during a busy first level of the day. 70 players are sat down for day 1b as it stands. New level is 50-100.

.

Nearing the end of level 1 – 21/06/13 – 12.56

We haven’t lost a player as we are down to the last 4 minutes of the level, but a couple of players on the move are

Dave McConachie… 33k
Sam Cooze… 31k
Adam Howlett… 30k
David Lloyd… 29k
Abbas Herfegar 625! (didn’t see the hand/hands) But a re-enrty looks imminent!

We should be underway within 5 minutes.

Welcome To Day 1b – 21/06/2013 – 11:45

Welcome back to Reading for Day 1b of the £500 Main Event here this Friday on what should be a very busy day. With just 15 minute until we kick off today, we already have 34 players registered to play, which is double the amount we started with yesterday. The players will be playing 9 levels of 60 minutes today with their 20,000 starting stack with breaks every 2 levels.

The man to catch from yesterday is Ricky Smith who finished with a shade over 100,000 chips to take through to Saturdays Day 2. Will anyone be able to better that? This is the only place to find out as we bring you editorial and video updates until we finish play at around 11pm tonight.

The tournament will kick off bang on time at noon.

Day 1a is Done – 20/06/2013 – 22:55

Well that is it for the first day of play here in Reading. We have finished the day with 25 players from the 52 entries that stumped up the £500 to play the tournament, some players re-entering and I’m sure some will be back again tomorrow for a 3rd and 4th try. It has been a great turn out considering at 11:45 we only had 9 entries and started play with just 17.

Ricky Smith leads the way with his stack of 100,000!! Following by James Martin with 85,000, full chip count will be up ASAP.

We will be back again tomorrow for more of the same, where we are expecting a much busier cardroom.

.

.

Four More Hands – 20/06/2013 – 22:35

The clock has been paused and Danny Toffel has drawn a four. That means four more hands and then we are done for the day.

.

.

Still 26 – 20/06/2013 – 22:25

With just 20 minutes left of todays play we still have the same 26 players that started the level left seated. The clock will be paused soon to play the last number of hands, will we lose anyone before we finish for the day??

.

.

Strangest Play Of The Day – 20/06/2013 – 22

Peter Haslam opens the action making it 1700 to play and is called in just 4 spots!

The players see a flop as it comes A–K–Q all hearts. Everyone checks to see the turn card that comes the four of hearts.

The action is checked to Terry Plummer who bets 5500, directly to his left James Martin raises to 50,000!! All players get out of the way and James shows J-J with the Jack of hearts for the nuts!! He takes the pot, but I’m calling that the strangest play of the day after the huge raise!

James is doing well though and has around 80,000.

.

.

The Elimination Chamber! – 20/06/13 – 21.53

These are the players that bust out during level 8.

Matt Davenport
Tom Guntrip
George Angus
Vimal Patel
Lee South
Khalick Mohangee
Debbie Brown

.

.

Level 9 – 20/06/2013 – 21:42

Players are back seated as we begin the final level of today.

We have 26 players remaining from the 52 that started the day.

.

.

Break Time – 20/06/2013 – 21:28

Another chance for the players to stretch their legs as they take their final 15 minute break of the day.

.

.

Hooks Hold! – 20/06/13 – 21:25

The last hand before the final break of the day we have a race for a 30k pot. All-in and at risk is Michael Ramsey who flips A-K, Richard Turner shows Jacks. The board runs out 10-2-3-7-Q as Michael heads out, leaving Richard to scoop the pot.

.

Andy Heading Miles Away! – 20/06/13 – 21

I just get to the table as 4th street is being placed on the table, but Andy Miles has his coat and belongings already under his arm!

All in pre with pocket 8’s he gets called, I was told, after a raising war with Frank Moszkal who has A-K.. The board reading 6-A-7-10-3 to send Miles to the rail! Frank has a healthy 50k, with the average at 40,000.

IMG_6574

.

.

Ilyukhin Takes One – 20/06/2013 – 20:55

I missed the pre flop action, but Victor Ilyukhin was the pre flop aggressor making it 4,000 to play and Willie Tann calling, I think after he limped in.

The two players would see a flop of Qc–7d–8c, which they both checked.

They turn card was 7s. Willie bet Tann which Victor called.

The river card was the Ace of clubs. Willie would could out firing, betting 6525, as soon as he put the chips into the middle Victor announced “All In!!”, Willie obviously not comfortable with his hand give it up.

Victor tabled A-K for rivered top pair. He is now up to around 42,000. Willie on the other hand is down to just 12,000.

.

.

Very Quiet – 20/16/2013 – 20:40

All is still very quiet in the cardroom. In the last 90 minutes of play we have lost only three players from the field. There’s still one level and 20 minutes left to play today before we can bag and tag. With 29 players left in the field, how many are we going to get down to?

.

.

Blinds Up! – 20/06/13 – 20:25

Blinds up as level 8 begins. 300-600 ra 75.. Average stack is 34,500. 30 players still in.

.

.

Why Worry Whybrew? – 20/06/13 – 20:16

With the blinds at 200-400 and Ricky Smith raising to 1000 on the button, Rob Whybrew decides it’s time to squeeze and moves all in for 13,400!.. Call says Ricky.

“Well I think I got 3 outs,”, says Rob turning over the dead mans hand, A-8. Amazingly he is in such good shape as Smith flips 7-8! No sweats and no danger as the Ace plays. Rob now has a healthy 28k, with the average at 34,500. Ricky drops down to 25,000.

Yuck for York!! – 20/06/2013 – 19

Clive Macey limps in first position, Pat Simcoe also limps, Debbie Brown then makes it 1400 to play, Adam York gets involved in the hand as he shoves for 12,000!! The action comes back to Clive who is playing about 17,000, he decides to make the call, everyone else gets out of the way and the cards are tabled…

Clive tables pocket fives and says to Adam “I put you on Ace-King”

Adam doesn’t have A-K and he has Clive crushed turning over pocket queens.

The flop comes 5–A–10!! The first card out is one of Clives two outs putting him ahead.

The turn card is a 4.

The river card a 6.

Clive Macey flops a set to win the pot.

A horrible beat for Adam York (below) as he is eliminated from the tournament.

Go with The…. Flo – 20/06/13 – 18:45

As play is at a slow pace, we thought it would be good to show one of the unsung heroes of the GukPT, the valet’s. Always there to help any poker player who is in need of refreshments during a hard days work at the office.  Flo is currently working the Bar, which is situated in the Poker Room.

Potts Busts Out! – 20/06/2013 – 18:35

I get to the table as the cards are already on their backs, A-K infront of John Potts unfortunately for him he is crushed, as at the other end of the table Timotheos Timotheou tables ACES!!

John needs massive help in this 40,000 pot, he doesn’t get it as the board runs out 2–Q–4–6–10.

Aces hold for Timotheos who now has 45,000.

John Potts (below) heads out as we are down to 38 players.

Danny Doubles! – 20/06/13 – 18:20

I said previously it was never dull watching Karen White. this time she is on the wrong end of Danny Toffel’s A-K. Danny moving his last 4,500 over the line on the river. Karen calls and insta-mucks when Danny flips Trip Kings. The double up moves Danny close to starting stack.

Double For Debbie! – 20/06/2013 – 16:13

I get to the table as the board reads A–4–5 all hearts, there is around 4500 in the middle.

Debbie Brown bets 3,000, Adam York directly to her left raises to 8,000 action comes back to Debbie who moves all in and Adam quickly makes the call.

Debbie doesn’t look pleased as she tables 4c–4d for bottom set, she is ahead as Adam tables Ad–Kh, for top pair, with the nut flush draw.

The turn card comes 8d.

The river card 3s.

Debbies set holds as she doubles to 44,000!! Adam is left with 10,000.

White a little bit Wrong! – 20/06/13 – 16

Watching Karen White is never going to be dull.. From chip leader in the early stages, she is the down to 12k after a battle George Angus, when she lays down her hand after being check called twice and 3 bet shoved on..

The very next hand, Karen again in the thick of it. On a Q-2-6 she bets 800 after George and Khalick both check calling. The turn is a 7, George checks again, with Khalick Mohangee also in the hand, checking also. Undeterred Karen bets 2600, George gives the spiel but passes Khalick then calls. A King on the river sees both players check. Karen announces “Queen” and Khalick mucks.

Karen back up to staring stack as we approach the dinner break.

Lost One – 20/06/2013- 15:43

We lose another player from the field as Chris Glanville heads out. I think he is going straight to the cashier desk though to re-enter and why wouldn’t you?? Players can still buy in up until the break after level 6. Which will be around 7:15pm.

.

.

Re-Entry Please! – 20/06/13 – 15:30

Khalick Mohangee, who finished 4th in Portsmouth, after a great deal of luck and gambling has had to re-enter during level 4… He looks at me as I walk passed and just says “You just have to gamble man!!”

IMG_6526

Chip leader at the present time is Ricky Smith with 43k, with the blinds at 100/200.

.

.

Level Four – 20/06/2013 – 15:20

.

.

Shhhh.. It’s Oh So Quiet! – 20/06/13 – 14:35

20 minutes into level 3 of the day and it is Oh so quiet in the card room. Viktor Illukin Sr has moved his stack to 30k, but other than that, nothing has changed since the break.

.

.

Level 3 – 20/06/2013 – 14:20

Players are back in the room as we begin the third level of today. Blinds are 75/150. We have 41 players in the room from the 42 entries.

.

.

Break Time – 20/06/2013 – 14:05

Break time now as the players take their first 15 minute break.

.

.

Lost One! – 20/06/13 – 14

Just before the first break of the day, we lose Champion from the last leg in Portsmouth, Nick Humphris. Not being at the table, unfortunately there are no details, and as we know from the previous leg, it is quite hard to get him on camera..

.

.

Big Stacks – 20/06/2013 – 13:45

There is no one with a huge stack just yet, but Karen White (below) is the early chip leader. She is up to 30,000. Other big stacks around the room are Bryan Clark – 29,000, Louise Lidbury – 29,000 & Pat Simcoe 27,000.

IMG_6510

.

Early Levels – 20/06/2013 – 13:30

The early levels aren’t very exciting for a blogger and today is no different, especially when there are only 5 tables in play. Two players who are fun to watch though are Victor Ilyukhin Jnr & Snr. They usually both play atleast half the hands they are dealt.

Jnr has started off well and is up to 25,000 on the other hand Snr is down to just 8,000 chips. We have half the level left before the players go on their first 15 minute break.

.

.

First All-in! – 20/06/13 – 13:15

As I get to the table, I hear “On your Backs!” Abdul Qayyum is the man at risk.

His relatively short stack of 8,150 in the middle. The board showing 10-6-A-5 (2 spades) Abdul flips A-Q, while Chris Parker tables J-Q (spades).. A blank 8 on the river means Abdul doubles up to near starting stack, while I wonder how all the money ended up in the middle!! Could be worth sticking round!

IMG_6517

.

.

Level 2 – 20/06/2013 – 13

Blinds up as we begin the second level of today. They are now 50/100. 35 entries so far and we have all players still with bums on seats.

.

.

The Start of Day 1a – 20/06/2013 – 12:48

.

.

Double up !! – 20/06/13 – 12:40

There is a credible argument for starting a little later, as already since the cry of Shuffle Up and Deal was announced, we have doubled the size of the field. In that time we have seen Viktor Illukin Sr and Jr enter the building, and also WSOP Bracelet winner Willie Tann (below) make an appearance.

IMG_6548

40 minutes have passed in the comp, with no eliminations or meaningful pots to talk about. But the place is getting busier by the minute.

Players Called In – 20/06/2013 – 11:55

Leg 5 – Welcome To Reading – 20/06/2013 – 11:45

Welcome to live editorial and video blog that will be covering Leg 5 of the GukPT tour for the next four days, which this week is in Reading. This is again a first for the GukPT to be visiting Reading and this brand new casino located just off the A33.

The tournament is a £500 NLHE which has two starting days, today and tomorrow. It also has a guarantee of £50,000, which in other legs has so far been smashed and I don’t see why this week will be any different.

We will provide you with as many videos/pictures/hands as possible throughout the tournament and I hope you will enjoy our coverage.

Play today will start at noon, with players playing 9, 60 minute levels.
