Walsall Round Up – 14/07/2013 – 18:30
We started the day with only eight players for the first time in GukPT History as we lost two players yesterday during hand for hand play.
The final table started with a bang, with us losing Julian Thew less than a round in, his QQ being beat by the AA of Charlie Denton, all in on the turn. Julian couldn’t keep his 100% winning record up as he finished in 8th place for £2,370.
The next player to be eliminated was the youngest player on the table Mark (Not Martin) Hester. He got it in with A-6 which could beat the Q-J of David Tighe who turned top pair after flopping a gut shot. Mark would leave disappointed with his 7th place finish for £3,220.
In 7th place we would lose Gerard Haggarhy, the irishman would run his 20 bigs stack into the A-K of Mr G, unfortunately Gerard was drawing thin with A-2. Which couldn’t get there, he would leave the final with a smile on his face and a cheque for £4,090.
Mr G would be the next player to leave the final in a pot worth half the chips in play. He got his 750,000 stack in the middle on a board of 10–4–6–9 with Aces and ran into the pocket 9s of Tim Slater who now held a huge chip lead. Mr G was one of the best characters I’ve seen playing the game and left with £5,160.
In fourth position we would lose Charles Ihle, who had grinded a short stack for the whole final table. He got it in with the nut flush draw and ran into the top two pair of Charlie Denton. Charlie was now chipped up as Charles headed for the cash desk to collect his £6,660.
The players would then be three handed for a good hour. Where big pots were played and the chips were going round and round. David Tighe then seemed to take control of the final table and would increase his stack over 2million.
Tim Slater who had been chip leader since mid way through yesterday would leave in third place, his A-5 being unable to beat the 9-9 of David even after turning a straight as the board paired on the river. Tim would leave with £10,970.
Heads Up would last much longer than anticipated as Charlie Denton fought back, shoving into David who just wanted to play small ball. After doubling up once with Jc-7c vs the 8-8 of David. He would get it again with A-4 which would be unable to beat the 7-7 of David.
Charlie Denton would finish runner up and cash out for £17,420.
David Tighe would be crowned as our GukPT Walsall Main Event Champion winning £24,910 a grand final seat and the beautiful trophy.
Until next time be lucky.

Day 2 Is Over – 13/07/2013 – 23:30
Well after nine levels and ten minutes of play we have managed to reach a final table, albeit one player short than usual finals but we don’t mind. Another action packed day here at the GukPT Main Event. This time we lost 12 players in the first level then it was relatively steady through the day with the chip lead changing hands on many occasions. The man who has completely smashed it though and finished on top was Tim Slater. After he bust Ellie Biessek with the nut straight against her top two he didn’t look back. He won two hands off Ivan Scott, which propelled him to the top of the chip counts. It should be a great final tomorrow with some real characters and who could forgot Mr Julian Thew who has made three finals and won them ALL, could this be number four?
We will find out tomorrow. Join us here and on the live stream again for a 2pm start.
Thank You and goodnight.

On the river Charlies Ihle bets 10,000, Stuart Langford folds.
Charles tables A-8 for a straight which is good to take the pot as Shaun only has A-K for ace high.
Shaun Griffin finishes in 16th place for £1,080.

Biggest Pot Of The Tournament – 13/07/2013 – 20:58
On a flop of A–5–6. Action goes raise, re-raise, all in, call to create a HUGE 520k pot!!
Both players turn over only one pair, A-Q for Tim Slater, which is ahead of the A-J of Ivan Scott.
The turn card is a King.
The river card a 7.
Tim takes the huge pot and tells the dealer to “Pass him the Mahoney!!” He is now massive chip leader. Ivan starts laughing, but it still left with around 175,000.
.
.
Pass Me The Mahoney!! – 13/07/2013 – 20:53
Ivan Scott must be a bit of a legend round this area, but it’s the first time I’ve reported on him, and I will never forget him. Everytime Ivan wins a big pot, which has happened alot today he says to the dealer “Pass Me The Mahoney” It has started catching on as a few other players are also copying his catchphrase. All in good spirits.
Huge Three Way All In – 13/07/2013 – 20:43
Chris Howden opens the action making it 12,000 to play from under the gun, Charles Ihle then moves all in for 42,500. A third player then enters the pot as Gerard Haggarty makes the call. The action omes all the way back round to Chris who then moves all in, it’s 80,000 more for Gerard to call, he hates it but he calls.
A massive three way all in!!
Gerard.. J-J
Chris…Q-Q
Charles… ACES!!
The board runs out 2–A–7–9–7.
Charles takes the main pot trebling to 120,000!!
Chris makes a profit on the hand and now has 160,000.

The Bubble Bursts! – 13/07/2013 – 20:22
As Svein has been eliminated from the field they need to break table five after the hand in progress so they can play hand for hand on the bubble….
The hand in progress turns out to be a big one as Ivan Scott and Stuart Fox get it all on a flop of Q–4–6, Stuart being the short stack with 75,000.
Ivan tables Q-9 and is infront of Stuarts Q-8.
The turn comes a 10.
The river a Jack.
The 9 plays and Ivan takes the pot.
With that hand Stuart Fox is eliminated on the bubble. All the players are now in the mahoney!!
.
.
Svein Eliminated! – 13/07/2013 – 20:16
Julian Thew opens and is called by Svein Eidsaeter in the blinds.
The flop comes Ad–9h–10d, Svein moves all in for around 60,000 and Julian makes the call.
Svein is ahead tabling Ah–3h but will need to dodge alot of outs as Julian shows Qd–Jd for straight and flush draws, he also has a Royal draw.
The turn card is an eight giving Julian a straight.
The river is a Queen.
Julian takes the pot and now has 275,000.
Svein Eidsaeter is eliminated from the tournament in 19th place.
.
.
.
.
Sherwood Eliminated – 13/07/2013 – 20:10
Svein Eidsaeter opens from the button, Justin DEvonport three bets in the big blind, Andy Sherwood then moves all in on the big blind for his 45,000 stack, Svein folds and Justin quickly calls.
Andy.. 6-6

The board runs out 7–7–2–7–2.
Justin takes the pot and now has 330,000.
Andy Sherwood heads out in 20th place.
.

Lost The Lady – 13/07/2013 – 20:05
We have lost our final lady in the tournament as Shahla Javadi heads out in 21st place.
Bott Busts – 13/07/2013 – 19:58
On a flop of 10s–9s–6s with four players involved. Julian Thew is first to act, he checks, James Bott then moves all in for his last 45,000.
Mark Hester & Justin Devonport fold their hands and Julian makes the call.
James tables Qh–Js, for a flush draw and an open ended straight draw, Julian tables 9d–9h for middle set.
The turn card is the six of clubs, giving Julian the full house, meaning James is drawing dead.
The river is a meaningless three.
Julian is now at his peak for the day with around 190,000.
James Bott has been grinding all day and unfortunately leaves us in 22nd place.
.
.
Sherwood Survives – 13/07/2013 – 19:44

Devonport Double Doubles – 13/07/2013 – 18:55
Just 20 minutes ago I reported Justin Devonport had 60,000. He is now up there with the chip leaders with nearly 300,000!! He doubled up in a hand that I missed, but when I arrived at his table he was all in again on a flop of J–10–8 holding pocket Queens for an over pair against the K-J of Eirimas Livonas.
The turn and river are both aces as Justins hand holds up.
Eirimas is left with around 100,000, which is still over 30 big blinds.
We still continue with 24 players and will be doing on a break in 7 minutes.
.
.
Beard Busts – 13/07/2013 – 18:45
After being here less than two levels, Paul Beard has been eliminated from the main event, he got his last 25,000 in the middle with pocket fours against the sevens of David Tighe.
The board ran out J–5–Q–7–6.
Very unlucky for Paul (below) who would of started the day with 57,000 but instead was left with just 15,000 when he got here.
David Tighe on the other hand now has 190,000.
.
.

All is Quiet – 13/07/2013 – 18:15
All is quiet in the first 10 minutes of this level. We haven’t seen much action or even one all in and a call. There are however a few short stacks out there. The shortest stack in the room belong to Paul Beard who was blinding away for four hours, while he was parked on the M6. He has 30,000 which is ten bigs.
Level Fifteen – 13/07/2013 – 18:05
The blinds increase as we begin level fifteen.
They are now 1,500/3,000 with a 400 ante.
We have 25 players remaining.

Two More Exits – 13/07/2013 – 17:55
Short stacks Tina Bandyle & Fraser Beach have both been eliminated from table four, which is now our feature table, as we are down to 25 players.
.
.
Ellie Eliminated – 13/07/2013 – 17:45
I hear the cry of all in and a call and see Ellie Biessek on her feet. She is the player all in, in what is a HUGE pot, probably around 200,000.
The board reads A–Q–10–6, Tim Slater is the player who has called her and has her covered.
Tim tables K-J for the nut straight, but Ellie still has outs tabling A-Q for top two.
The river is a 10.
With that we lose Ellie Biessek from the field.
Tim Slater is now up to 300,000 and is the new chip leader.
.
.
Exits – 13/07/2013 – 17:40
Well while we have had doubles up on a few tables, there has been exits on the others. We have lost Roby Joganah, Adam Phelan & Nathan Henry from the field.
With their eliminations we are down to 27 players, so three tables.
.
.
Double For Dunne – 13/07/2013 – 17:35
Action is folded round to short stack Paul Dunne on the button, he moves all in for around 30,000. Svein Eidsaeter makes the call in the big blind.
Paul is in great shape for a double up tabling A-Q vs the As-8s of Svein.
The flop comes 3–Q–6 with two spades. Top pair for Paul and the nut flush draw for Svein.
The turn is a red two.
The river the Ace of clubs.
Top pair holds for Paul as he gets a much needed double to 65,000.
.
.
Just The Nuts For Julian – 13/07/2013 – 17:25
I get to the table as the board reads J–3–4–J–J. There is around 50,000 in the middle with two players involved in the hand, they are Julian Thew and Eirimas Livonas. Julian is all in for around 45,000, Eirimas is deep in the tank but eventually slide the call over the line.
Julian tables J-8 for QUADS!! He doubles up to around 150,000 while Eirimas drops to 160,000 but still has over the 122,000 average.
.
.
They’ve Finally Made It – 13/07/2013 – 17:17
After spending nearly five hours parked on the M6, Paul Beard and Craig Blyth have made it here to Walsall. That’s a horrendous bad beat for anyone, to miss the first four levels with something that you cannot control. They are now both here though but work needs to be done, especially Paul as he is down to just 15,000. Craig has a little bit of breathing room with 60,000 but it is still nearly half the average.
Good luck to them both, they deserve a little bit of run good.

.
Denton Stacking Chips! – 13/07/2013 – 16:07
Charlie Denton makes it 6,000 to play from the button, Dean Gilbert moves all in from the big blind for around 30,000, Charlie thinks for a minute or two and says “I’m going to gamble with you” as he makes the call.
Charlie tables A-5 which is ahead of the K-J of Dean.
The board runs out 10–2–2–4–Q.
Ace high takes the pot as Charlie Denton is up to 175,000.
Den Gilbert is eliminated just before dinner break.
.
.
Jackson Eliminated – 13/07/2013 – 15:58
Ben Jackson who has been grinding a short stack and hasn’t really got anything going finds K-8 of hearts with his 8 big blinds and moves all in. Unfortunately for him he runs into the pocket Aces of Julian Thew.
The board runs out 8–3–3–10–10.
Julian takes the pot with two pair and now has 90,000.
Ben Jackson is eliminated as we are down to 35 players.
.
.

Slater Up to 200k! – 13/07/2013 – 15:42
Tim Slater raises on the button and Priyanand Hallan defends in the big blind.
The flop comes 3–4–8, the two players get their stacks in, Priyanand only having around 17,000.
Tim is ahead with K-K for an over pair against the 5–6 of Priyanand for an open ended straight draw.
The turn card comes a Jack.
The river card a 10.
Priyanand heads for the exit door while Tim is now one of the chip leaders with 200,000!!
.
.
Tina Flips Good – 13/07/2013 – 15:35
Tina Bandyle & Fraser Beach, who have both been regulars this season on the GukPT get it all in pre flop with Tina at risk. She has the best of it tabling 9-9 against the A-J of Fraser.
The first card is a nine and by the turn Fraser is drawing dead!!
She gets her double up and now has 45,000, still half the average, but still over 20 bigs. Fraser is still in good shape with 75,000.
.
.
All is Quiet- 13/07/2013 – 15:30
All is quiet on the tournament floor during this level so far. I have just stood inbetween the five players in play for the first 10 minutes of this level and seen no hands of interest. This is the business end of the tournament now as we are 22 players off the money.
.
.

Julian tables A-Q which has the Q-9 of Ian crushed!!
The board runs out 5–6–2–6–3.
Ian (below) completely misses the board and heads out.
Three time GukPT Main Event champ Julian Thew is now over average and has 85,000.
.
.
Liu Gets Hearts! – 13/07/2013 – 14:50
Dahe Liu moves all in for for 21,000 and is called by one of the chip leaders Mr G.
It’s a classic coinflip as Dahe tables 9-9 vs the A-J of Mr G.
The flop comes J–6–2, Dahe stands up, but then realises that he has a flush draw as the flop is all hearts.
The turn card is the ten of hearts giving him the flush and the pot.
The river is a meaningless Ace as Mr G makes two pair.
Dahe Liu (below) survives the coinflip and doubles up to 44,000.
Mr G still has a healthy stack of 120,000.

The flop comes 7–2–3.
Mr G checks to James who fires out a bet of 2700, G then quickly throws in 5,000, but is told it must be 5,400, James calls the bet.
The turn card pairs the board coming another two.
Mr G quickly leads out, betting 12,000, James cuts out a raise and makes it 26,700, as quick as a flash G moves all in but before he can put his chips over the line James’ cards are already in the muck.
James Keys is now down to 25,000 while Mr G is up to nearly 100,000.

Redfearn Doubles – 13/07/2013 – 12:40
Steve Redfearn gets his 18,000 stack all in pre flop and is called by Mark Hester.
Steve absolutely hates it as he tables A-Q vs the A-K of Mark.
The flop comes 5–3–7, changing nothing.
The turn card is the Queen of spades, Steve takes the lead, but Mark picks up the flush draw as he is holding the ace of spades.
The river isn’t a spade or a king and with that Steve doubles up to just 37,000.
Mark is still comfortable with around 40,000 and takes it rather well still smiling about the hand.

Ashley tables Aces for an over pair but will need to improve against the 9-8 for Fraser who has flopped bottom two pair.
The turn card comes a four.
The river card is a Jack.
Ashley Haddon is eliminated from the tournament while Fraser increases his stack to around 85,000.

.
One Hand in One Player Down – 13/07/2013 – 12:10
After just one hand we have lost our player, that player being Min Ji who started the day as the second shortest stack, Jeff Kimber being the shortest stack. As is the same during any Day 2, we expect absolute carnage in the first level as the short stacks try to get some chips back.

Day 1b is Over – 12/07/2013 – 22:40
Well that’s it, the players have bagged and tagged and day 1b is in the books. A massive turnout here today as we had 108 entries, add that to the 64 yesterday that makes 172 in total creating a prizepool of £86,000!! It has been an up and down day with us eventually ending the day with around 42 players, they will be back tomorrow to join the 24 from yesterday to try and make the final day. There’s a lot of big stacks coming through from today, but we think Ellie Biessek is still with chip leader with around 125,000.
We will be back tomorrow for a 12pm start, so join us then as the whole day will be live stream.
Chip Counts to follow.
.
.
Last 6 Hands – 12/07/2013 – 22:28
The clock has been paused with 10 minutes left to play. A six has been chosen from the three cards. That means six more hands and we are done for the day.
.
.
Double Ups – 12/07/2013 – 22:15
It seems some of the short stacks are not prepared to come back tomorrow without a stack and why should they, there’s still 20 minutes left on the clock, so more than enough time to double up.
Karl Jones has just got it all in with A-10 of diamonds vs the K-Q Andrzej Kozikowski of who was also short stacked.
The flop came K–2–3 with two diamonds, giving Andrzej the lead, but Karl picked up the flush draw.
The turn card was a 4 giving Karl even more outs with a straight draw.
He got there on the river as it comes an Ace. He gets his double up and now has 25,000.
Also doubling up on a different table was James Bott whose K-J outflipped the pocket nines of John Burberry who was eliminated a few hands later.
We expect some more gamble in the last 20 minutes
.
.
Shiels Feels the Pain – 12/07/13 – 22:06
Not running to the table quick enough we just see Rich Sheils departing the room, as Eirimas Livonav fist pumps the turn.. On arriving to the table he has just turned the nut straight with 5-6, on a board of K-4-7-3.
Richard has A-K tabled and in front on the flop when the money went in. Eirimas is stacking around 120k.
.
.
Last Level of Today – 12/07/2013 – 22:05
.
.
Steady Trickle of Exits – 12/07/13 – 21:53
Three more to scratch off the list..
Dom Mahoney (2nd in Portsmouth)
Rook Cook
Lynne Hancock
50 left in with around 45 mins to play.
.
.
Toffel a Trifle Lucky -12/07/13 – 21:40
John Crawford was ahead on the flop of A-6-4(all clubs) as he flops a set of Aces. His 11k stack is in the middle when he calls Danny’s shove on that board.
Danny reveals J(c)Q(s), so as it stood, John needed to fade a club. What no one was expecting was an offsuit King, then an offsuit 10 to give Danny the broadway nuts.
It took a while to register as John then realized that was that. Danny is now up to 30k
.
.
Level 9 – 12/07/2013 – 21:35
The players are back as we begin the last level of today. The blinds are 400/800 with a 100 ante.

Mudassar Hussain
Mark Kristjansen
Sylvia Hewitt
.
.
A Key Pot – 12/07/13 – 20:58
Richard Pearson’s run has come to an abrupt end! After seeing him as he leaves the card room, I ask what happened, as all I saw was that he was all in for 375!!
After losing that hand and departs the comp, he said 2 hands previous he lost with Queens against James Keys’ Aces.. “I called every street” said Richie and obv didn’t put him on Aces!
Off to the side event, goes the king of side events!
.
.
Campbell Eliminated – 12/07/2013 – 20:55
On a flop of 7–4–10 with around 9,000 in the middle Yiannis Liperis bets 4600, Mike Campbell thinks for a minute or so before moving all in for his 18,000 stack. Yiannis quickly calls and the cards are tabled…
Yiannis.. K-K
Mike…..6-6
The turn card comes a three giving Mike four more outs with a gut shot straight draw.
The river card is an 8.
King hold up for Yiannis who is now up to 50,000, Mike heads out!

Level 7 Update – 12/07/2013 – 20:15
.
.
Lloyd is Dunne – 12/07/2013 – 20:10
I hear the cry of all in and a call, I turn my back to see two players who made the final table of the last leg involved in the hand. They are David Lloyd & Paul Dunne.
David is all in for his last 9,000 and Dunne has called. The flop reads J–9–7.
David tables K-J for top pair but is drawing very thin as Paul tables 10-8 for the nut straight!!
The turn and river don’t improve Davids hand and he is eliminated from the tournament.
Paul Dunne looks good for another deep run as he is now up to around 90k.
.
.
Ihle Win That one – 12/07/13 – 20
Charles Ihle has just taken 2 out, but had to dodge some bullets in doing so. With a flop 3(s)- J(h)- 2(h) the money flies in the middle after Steven Smith flopped the nut flush draw, holding A-6(h). Martyn Holmes tabled J-3 for top two.
Charles tables pocket 2’s for bottom set!!
The turn is a 4(c) and the river the 6(s) giving the set of 2’s a huge pot of 70k and eliminating two in the process.
.
.

Last Man In. – 12/07/13 – 19:23
Richard Pearson was at the races on the last hand of the level. 8’s against John Burberry’s A-Q. A queen on the turn was enough to end the dream of a miracle comeback. But Richie then realized you can buy in during the break and is now sat on table 3.
He was the last re-entry of the tourney, with what looks like £86,000 in the prize pool.
.
.
Level 7 – 12/07/2013 – 19:17
Players are now back in the cardroom as we begin level 7. The blinds are 200/400 with a running ante of 50.
We have 70 players remaining from the 107 total entries today.
.
.
Craaaaazzzzy! – 12/07/13 – 19
As we hit the break and 15 minutes to catch our breath we lose in the final 10 mins of the level the following :-
Liam Barnard
Adam Topping
Michael Nabbs
Malcolm Coleman
Lewis Brown
.
.
Topping Rivered! – 12/07/2013 – 18:59
I get to the table as the board reads Jd–10h–3d, three players are involved in the hand.
The player on the button bets 1600 which is called by James Williams, Adam Topping who is the third and final player involved then moves all in for 6250.
James pipes up and says “Jesus, I didn’t even see you were in the hand, I thought he opened (pointing to the player on the button)”. Adam starts laughing and replies with “No I opened”.
The player on the button makes a fold and James makes the call.
Both players then table King high. Adam shows K-Q for an open ended straight draw, which is ahead of the Kd-6d for a flush draw tabled by James.
The turn card is the seven of clubs.
The river card the nine of diamonds.
Adam makes a straight on the river but it’s no good as James hits a flush.
Adam who is a new memeber of the blue blood team is eliminated from the tournament while James is up to 32,000.
.
.

Ryan Fear – 11,000

.
.
Doubles Again! – 12/07/13 – 18:42
Richard Pearson then gets it all in again, this time with A-10 against Tom Brady’s pocket 7’s. An Ace on the turn gives the pot to Richie as he doubles to 11k. If he does it again he will be near average stack!
.
.
Did Pearson Want the Double? – 12/07/13 – 18:36
Richard Pearson, who has 3 side event wins on the tour this year, is all-in for his final 3000 after a bad day at the office. Chris Howden makes the call with pocket 3’s, Richie P has 9-10..
The board comes 4-6-J-J-4 which counterfeits the 3’s.
Would Richie have preffered the exit, as he can still re-enter for another 30 mins?
.
.
Chip Counts – 12/07/2013 – 18:32
Trevor Reardon – 25,000
Mark McCluskey – 17,000
Glenn Ashworth – 47,000
James Keys – 42,000
Eirimas Livonas – 40,000
Sylvia Hewitt (above) – 38,000
.
.
Last Level of Re-Entries – 12/07/13 – 18:20
With 104 players playing day 1b 86 + 18 re-entries, a nice prize pool is building. As it stands at the moment there is a whopping £84,000 in there. We still have 45 minutes to re-enter too, and buy in, if anyone walks through the door.
.
.
Ludo Busts! – 12/07/2013 – 18:10
At the end of the last level we lost Ludovic Geilich who has come down from Scotland today to play this event. He got it in with A-K and unfortunately for him ran into the ACES of Vance Martin who is now up to 55,000.
I’m guessing Ludo will be re-entering as this is the last level he can do so.
.
.
Level 6 – 12/07/2013 – 18
The blinds increase as we begin level 6. They are now 150/300 with a 25 ante.
78 players remaining so far today.
.
.
Where’s Ellie? – 12/07/13 – 17:55
Where ever there is a GukPT, there is Ellie Biessek. They go together like bread and jam, cheese and onion, Cannon and Ball. So where is the news today of her today, I hear you cry. Well……
She managed to turn Quads early in the day against Ali Mallu. Played A-8 and obv the board comes A-A-8. Now during level 5 has just taken out Danny Toffel and Ian Gwynne in the same hand.
Something for everyone on a K-10-8 flop. Ian with the nut flush draw, Danny with A-K and Ellie flopping a set of 8’s. The set of 8’s hold and Ellie is up to near chip leader on 80k. Promise we won’t be leaving any more news of the lovely Ellie, who has cashed 3 times on the tour this year on the news room floor.
.
.
Cardroom Pan – 12/07/2013 – 17:52
.
.
Steady Away! – 12/07/13 – 17:40
Only the name of Hamish Morjoria has been handed to us int he last 15 mins or so. Whatever was in the dinner has made the players rather lethargic. Ali Mallu on his 2nd bullet is up and down as you would expect. Up to 50, down to 20, now has around to 25k mark and bang on average.
.
.
Separated at Birth! – 12/07/13 – 17:24
I’m sure you will agree that it is always good to see celebrities mucking in. Dealing for us today is Omid Djalili, the Iranian comedian. Or is it our very own Adrian??
.

.
.
Brighton Is Next – 12/07/2013 – 16:10
.
.
Cairns Eliminated – 12/07/2013 – 16:05
On a flop of 9–8–4, Alistair Cairns gets his last 5k in the middle vs Danny Toffel. Alistair tables A-8 for second pair and will need to find an Ace as Danny shows 9-8 for top two. The turn and river are both bricks and Alistair heads out of the tournament. Danny takes the pot, but still has under starting stack with 16,000.
.
.
Dunne Not Finished! – 12/07/13 – 15:55
Dan Hardy who has just returned from playing the WSOP, has just been eliminated by Paul Dunne(Below,Who has re-entered) and instantly moved to 40k
Paul flopped a set of Queens he tells me, as I walk over as Dan stands up. He also said he had A-K when he snap mucked the first bullet.
.
.
Carpenter Eliminated. – 12/07/2013 – 15:45
I get to the table as the board reads J–9–9–K–3, I didn’t the action, but it’s a big pot. On the end Vance Martin moves all in for around 13,000, Ben Carpenter thinks for all about 30 second before making the call putting himself at risk, Vance tables pocket Kings for a full house!! Ben is obviously frustrated as he tables Q-9 for flopped trips, his cards go into the muck as he heads out. Vance on the other hand is now up to 40,000.
.
.
Last 4 Exits – 12/07/13 – 15:33
The last 4 names we have been given and are no longer left in the comp are :-
Paul Dunne
Steve Holden
Jiri Sladskovsky
Tim Timotheou
Blinds are 100-200 with 40 minutes to go until to dinner break.
.
.
Snap Muck!!! – 12/07/13 – 15:22
You don’t very often see anyone snap fold when they are all in. Paul Dunne has just done that and has been eliminated from day 1b.
Mike Campbell calls Paul’s All-in on a three heart flop. Mike turn over the flopped flush and Paul snap folds! Into the muck they go as we lose another. All the table are still trying to work out what he had! Mike on the other hand goes over starting stack once again.
.
.
Level Four – 12/07/2013 – 15:18
The blinds increase as we begin level four. They are now 100/200. We have 90 entries so far today, with 80 of them remaining.

3 Way All-in! 12/07/13 – 14.52
I get to the table and see a flop of K(s)- Q(-s)- 7(c)..
Steve Holden’s chips are all in the middle and so too Craig Blyth’s.. Craig has Steve covered as he has around 8k. In the tank in the mean time, is Blue Blood’s Tim Timotheou.
He eventually makes it a 3 way all in. Steve flips 7-9(both spades), Craig is in good shape with pocket Kings for top set, Tim flips 10-J(clubs) for an up and down and back door flush draw.
The drama stopped right there as the 4(h) and the 2(c) means we lose Steve, Tim Tim drops 18k and Craig moves up to 52k

.
Three Exits – 12/07/2013 – 14:30
I have just been handed three cards by Dena, that means we have lost three players from the field, they are Gary Moore, John Burberry (below) & David Lloyd. Burberry and Lloyd both made final tables in Reading in Leg 5, but they will need to re-enter to equal that feat.
.
.
Level Three – 12/07/2013 – 14:20
Players are back from their break as we begin level three. Blinds are 75/150. We have 84 entries so far today..
.
.
Break Time – 12/07/2013 – 14:03
Break time for the players as they take their first 15 minute break.
.
.
All is Quiet – 12/07/2013 – 13:55
Well it has all gone quiet on the cardroom floor after the madness in the first few levels. There is five minutes before the players go on their first 15 minute break.
.
.
Is it a record? – 12/07/13 – 13:42
We have been wondering if Mindaugas Bacevicius’ second bust out before the end of level 2 is a GukPT record?
Having had a bullet on day 1a, he then bust out first on day 1b, then Richard Kellet stacks him!. Not around to see the demise of Mindaugas but only 90 minutes in and two bullets today has to be close to a record.
I’m guessing Walsall isn’t on his favourite places to play! Kellet up to 35k during level 2.
.
.
Alternates Coming in – 12/07/2013 – 13:34
Alternates are coming in thick and fast as we are now up to 80 entries so far for today. Some of the alternates coming through the door include, Richard Kellett, Ryan Fear and leaderboard winner from last year Martin Holmes.
.
.
Reard-on Fire! – 12/07/13 – 13:23
Mark McCluskey had already lost around 8000 to Trevor Reardon before they clash again.
Walking to the table is see Trev has tabled K-Q on a K-K-J-5-3 board, Mark’s cards were already in the muck and he was standing up and walking away! Trevor has just short of 40k and is up there with the early chip leaders.
.
.
Mallu Busts! – 12/07/2013 – 13:15
I hear the cry of “All in & a call….” I turn round to see Alli Mallu all in for his last 6,000 on a board of J–6–7–9 with K-8 for an open ended straight draw. His opponent has called with K-J and Alli is drawing thin. The river card is a 3 and we lose Alli Mallu from the field. I’m pretty sure he will re-enter but he leaves the cardroom now and is off to chill.
.
.
Start Of Day 1b – 12/07/2013 – 13:05
.
.
New Blinds – 12/07/13 – 13:02
Blinds up as we lose just one player during the first level. The numbers are looking good, with 71 sitting and starting level 2. 50-100 is the new level.
.
.
Lost One!! – 12/07/13 – 12:50
As we normally see, no matter what the starting stack, we always seem to lose on in the first level with the blinds so low. This time we lose Mindaugas Bacevicius! Raise, 3 bet, call pre and the guys see a 10-10-10 flop. Tim Timotheou leads out and gets called, turn is a 5.
Tim bets just enough to put Mindaugas all-in, he snaps with Jacks! I’m not to sure if he thought Tim was barreling with A high but he wasn’t in front to much. Tim flips Aces and wins when no Jack appears on the river.
Early chip leader is Tim with 37k

Day 1a Is Done! – 11/07/2013 – 22:55
Well that’s it for Day 1a here in Walsall after 9 levels of play. Today we started the tournament with 32 players, but we have doubled that as we finished with 64 entries in total. Around 28 of those players will be coming out to battle it out for Day 2. Today has been a fantastic day with chip spraying back and fourth and no one player really dominating the field. We will be back tomorrow from 11:45am for Day 1b, which will start at 12pm. I hope you join us then, full chip counts will be up as soon as possible.

Last Six Hands – 11/07/2013 – 22:35
The clock has been paused with 10 minutes left to play.
Graham Pound draws a six. We will now play six more hands before we finish for the day.

Warburton Busts In Huge Flip – 11/07/2013 – 22:24
Shahla Javadi makes it 1900 to play, Steve Warburton then starts to think about his options, while doing so he is having a good chat with Stuart Fox about their huge pot that happened a few levels back. Philip Powell who is directly to Steves left doesn’t realise he is still in the hand because he is talking (which has been going on no longer than 30 seconds), he makes the call for the 1,900 out of turn. Steve points out that the action is still on him and the two players are then involved in a heated argument.
Steves point is that he is more than capable and should be allowed to chat while he is still thinking about his decision. Philip thinks Steve shouldn’t be talking while still in the hand and says “He should either shut up or fold”.
The floor is called and it’s ruled that although it is not against the rules it’s bad etiquette for Steve to be chatting to a player while the action is on him.
Warburton then announces all in, Philip gets out of the way, but his 1900 stays in the pot. Shahla has a real decision on her hands when the action comes back to her, she eventually makes the call to create a 60,000 flip.
Shahla…A-K
Steve…..4-4
The board runs out 9–6–K–9–5.
Steve is eliminated from the tournament and obviously not happy about the whole situation as he goes to talk to the TD.
Shahla now has a huge stack of around 80,000!
.
.
2nd Time Unlucky – 11/07/13 – 22:07
Kevin O’Driscoll was all-in twice in quick succession. The first time his Q-9 is up against Kings! The board runs out 2-3-5-4-A!! Chop Chop..
The second time, he jams with A-8, he then gets called by Michael Kossov AND Julian Thew(2nd Bullet). They both flip over 10’s. No Ace on the flop as the 2 guys split the chips as we lose one.
Down to 29 half way thought he final level.
.
.
Recent Eliminations – 11/07/2013 – 22:07
Players who have just recently been eliminated from the tournament as we are down to 30 players…
Peter Wigglesworth
Gary Phillips
Ryan Omahony
Matthew Sear
Barry Lane
.
.
It’s all About Timing – 11/07/2013 – 21:56
The action is folded round to Steve Redfearn on the button who moves all in for his last 11,000 chips, he just has to get through the blinds. He can’t do that as Adam Phelan makes the call from the big blind.
Adam…KINGS!!
Steve…..J-10
The flop comes J–10–4, two pair for Steve as he takes the lead.
The turn card comes a 6.
The river card a 3.
Steve takes the pot with two pair doubling to 23,000.
Adam still has around 50,000.
.
.
Top 5 Chip Stacks – 11/07/13 – 21:48

Jones loses Another – 11/07/13 – 21:19
We get to the table when Ben Jones call a 3 bet pre from Nathan Henry.
The flop is 8-3-8, Nathan puts in a 4100 bet, which Ben Tank calls. A king on the turn and Nathan barrels for 7000. Ben only thinks for a moment before passing his cards. He is down to 18k and needs help with the average at 34,000.
Nathan has just more than average on 35k.
.
.
Gift for Fox – 11/07/2013 – 21:14
Steve Warburton opens the action making it 1200 to play, he is called in one sport before Stuart Fox three bets to 3,075, action comes back to Steve who studies Fox before four betting to 6,000. The limper looks like he might get involve but opts to leave the two aggressive players at it. Stuart spends little time before putting 14,000 into the middle, Steve instantly moves all in and Stuart calls to create a HUGE 75,000 pot!!
Steve has been caught at it as he tables J-9 and will need help vs the pocket ladies of Stuart.
The board runs out 3–Q–7–J–3.
Stuart Fox hits a set of queens and with that he doubles up to 75,000. Steve Warburton is left with 30,000.
.
.
Chip Counts – 11/07/2013 – 21:02
David Tighe – 30,000
Matthew Wilson – 45,000

Martin Hogarty – 40,000
Shahla Javadi – 65,000
.
.
Jones Loses Momentum – 11/07/13 – 20:52
Ben Jones was up to 70k and cruising along nicely, until he loses a 45k pot against Gerard Harraghy. Only seeing the action when they both check the river, Jones flips A-J for top pair, Gerard flip A-Q.
The Queen plays and Harraghy stacks around 90k. Ben still above the 33k average with 40k.
.
.
Lost Another – 11/07/2013 – 20:48
We lose another short stack from the field as Andreas Olympios leaves the cardroom, he never really got anything going all day and last I seen he had a stack of just 5000, less than 10 big blinds. I am sure he will be back tomorrow for another go, as will a lot of the people who bust during the last two levels of play
.
.
Early Pacesetter Exits – 11/07/13 – 20:36
Barry Lane, who set the early pace is the latest casualty of day 1a. Up to the heady heights of 42000 in the early stages of the day, bites the dust, to leave us with 35 players.
.
.
Level 8 – 11/07/2013 – 20:30
The blinds increase as we begin level eight. They are now 300/600 with a 75 ante. We have 35 players remaining with two levels left to play tonight.
.
.
Double Ups – 11/07/2013 – 20:25
Justin Devonport makes it 1500 to play after two limpers, Ben Jackson then moves all in from the button for 5500, Justin makes the call after the limpers get out of the way.
Justin tables A-8 which is ahead against the K-Q of Ben.
The board runs out Q–10–Q–A–6. Ben makes trip Queens to take the pot, doubling to 12,500.
Then on the table opposite Julian Thew puts Mike Hill all in on a flop of 9–6–4, Mike calls off his last 8,000 and the cards are tabled..
Mike is miles ahead with 10-9 for top pair against the 2-2 of Julian.
The turn card is a five. The river card a 4.
Mike doubles up to 19,000, while Julian is left with 20,000. Both players still short of the 32,000 average.

.

Nick Tate
Danny Toffel
Jeremy Brown

Anthony Tripper
Craig Dawson
.
.
Toffel in a Hurry – 11/07/13 – 19:53
Danny Toffel (Below), who spent 5 hours on the motorways getting to Walsall, made it here during level 6.
He said it was time to spin!. He drops all the way down to 4k from the 20k starting stack and is all-in blind, after first making sure he can enter the Omaha comp that has started in the adjacent room. He then flips over Queens and doubles up through Stu Langford.
The very next hand he is all in blind again, this time with 7-2.. He does however have live cards against the A-K of James Dempster. No help this time for Toffel as he scurries away to join the Side Event!
.
.
Langford Takes Chip Lead – 11/07/2013 – 19:50
I get to the table on the turn where the board reads A–10–5–4, there is around 12,000 in the middle.
Stuart Langford bets 9,050, Michael Ramsay then moves all in for around 28,000, action comes back to Stuart who makes a sigh call..
Michael tables A-Q for top pair which Stuart is delighted to see as he shows A-10 for top two.
The river card is a six.
Michael Ramsay is eliminated from the tournament while Stuart is up to 80,000 and is the new chip leader!
.
.
40 Players Left – 11/07/13 – 19:40

.
Perry Takes a Pounding! – 11/07/2013 – 18:58
Not knowing how Matthew Perry had dwindled to just 4k wasn’t an issue as we see his last few chips in the middle of the table. He flips 5-6 for live cards, which is probably as good as he could have expected.
One of the Blue Blood Poker Group, Graham Pound shows A-K. Perry had a gut shot on the river, but missed and away he went. Graham moves up to around the 30k mark.
.

Top 3 in Chips. – 11/07/13 – 18:19

No Repeat for Holden! – 11/07/13 – 17:27
Steve Holden who finished as runner up last year here at Walsall, has just been eliminated in unfortunate fashion.
Not having seen his stack dwindle to around the 8k mark, I arrive at the table to see all his chips in the middle and Tim Slater raking in the pot. The flop was a wet 9-10-J.. As I peered over the shoulder of Adam Phelen I see Slater with Q-K and the flopped nuts. Unfortunately for Steve he flops the wrong end with 7-8.
Steve Heads out and only a re-entry at some stage will give him a chance to repeat last years heroics. Tim(Below) moves up nicely to 47k.

Ladies No Good! – 11/07/13 – 15:25
Nathan Henry check raised an Ace high flop, but got caught by Ben Jones, who was holding A-10 on an Ace high flop! Nathan tried to rep a big hand, as he had raised pre with Queens.
Only sitting with around 7k, it wasn’t too big a bet for Ben to call.
Nathan taps the table and instantly asks if he can re-enter? Yes of course, was the reply. Ben moves his stack up to 35k, with the blinds at 100-200.
.
.

Errr Bizarre to Say the Least! – 11/07/13 – 14:55
Justin Devonport has just taken two out in the most bizarre fashion!
He raises (UTG) to 325 (75-150). Stu Langford shoves blind for his final 2000. Mohammed Ghollamrezapour then says “I’m all In”… Justin snaps! Mohammed then says “I was only joking!! To which Justin replied “Well I’m not ” and flips Cowboys. Mohammed after consultation, then turns over Q-9 (off) ..
No help for the short stack Stuart as he leaves us, and no help either for the guy that obviously just tried isolating the All-in player, and obviously failed!!
Justin moves up to 37,000..

Top Chip Stacks – 11/07/13 – 14:35
With only David Wilkes being eliminated, it is hard to find a runaway leader or even a big stack, as players are finding their feet during the first few levels. However one player has managed to double his stack and is the current chip leader.
Barry Lane….42,000 (Above) Is Chip Leader at the moment.
Kevin O ‘ Driscoll….33,000
Martin Hogarty…. 32,000
Ben Jackson… 30,000
Craig Dawson 27,500

Level Three – 11/07/2013 – 14:21
Players are back seated at the tables as we begin level three. Blinds are now 75/150.
We lost one player on the last hand before the break, that player being David Wilkes. So we are down to 50 players from the 52 entries so far today.

Only The One! – 11/07/13 – 13:55
We normally see more than just the one lady playing a GukPT event, but coming up to the end of level 2 there is just the one. Local player Shahia Javadi being the one.
By the end of the late reg period, it may have changed, but as yet Shahia is the only lady in the field. Steady away too, with starting stack of 20k coming up to the first break.

First Elimination – 11/07/2013 – 13:48
I go for a wander in the cardroom to see if there are any small pots that I can report on and manage to see the first elimination of today and it’s a strange one…
Harish Sahnan limps in early position, action then comes to Martin Hogarty who makes it 350 to play, he is called in two spots before Harish three bets to 2,000, Martin doesn’t need much time to think as he puts in a huge four bet to 6,350. The two callers get out of the way and Harish calls to see the flop.
The flop comes Qs–5c–6c.
Harish quickly checks to Martin who flicks in 6,000, of his 13,000 stack, Harish has 8,000 left and looks like he has a decision on his hands. He then asks for the floor to ask “I’ve won another seat, if I bust now can I use my other seat to re-enter?” He is told that he can do this. After hearing that he moves all in for his 8,000 chips (still 80 big blinds) Martin calls for not much more and the two hands are tabled.
Martin tables pocket Kings for an over pair and will need to dodge three aces as Harish tables A-K.
The turn card is a 3. The river card a Queen.
A strange hand but Martin isn’t complaining as he now has around 35,000. Harish has been eliminated and has re-entered.

The Only Three Time Champ! – 11/07/2013 – 13:20
Julian Thew is in the field today on table four seat seven. Julian has a very impressive poker resume which includes him being the only three time GukPT Main Event winner. He has wins in Plymouth in 2007 for £59,500, Brighton in 2008 for £89,950 & Coventry in 2011 for £42,740. He has a 100% record on final tables in the main event, three finals, three wins, easy hame! He has only one other cash in the main event over the years that being a 18th place finish in Newcastle in 2007 for £1,400. So players must beware, if Thewy manages to final table this weekend, he is more than likely going to win it!
Level 2 – 11/07/2013 – 13:07
Well after an uneventful first level the 49 players have all survived as we go into the second level.
Blinds are now 50-100.

Mike Hill enters the Building – 11/07/13 – 13
So, steady away so far in level 1.
Mike Hill then walks through the door as a late entry. “Nice to see you Mike” I say as we shake hands.
“You wouldn’t normally see me in Walsall” he says, “But the things you do after a bottle of Pinot Grigio”!! Referring to the fact that he won a seat online while downing said bottle!!
Good luck to “Da Bookie” as he sits down with 5 mins of level 1 left.

Welcome to Walsall – 11/07/2013 – 11:45
Good afternoon and welcome to the G casino in Walsall for another leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour 2013. This is leg 6 on the tour which is another £500 main event with a £50,000 guaranteed prizepool!! With the £500 events becoming more and more popular as we go on will this one be able to break the 165 players that turned up for the last leg in Reading.
Today will be Day 1a, with Day 1b tomorrow, the players combining for Day 2 on Saturday and the final table will be played on Sunday, where we will crown a winner. Daniel Haglund (below) took down the Walsall leg last year taking home £45,100 after beating Steve Holden heads up. Who is going to take it down this year??
The side events have been buzzing this week and we expect the same from the main event.
Today there will be a video & editorial blog with the live stream starting on Saturday.
I’m looking forward to a great days poker for the next four days, I hope you are prepared for the same.
