Goodbye From Blackpool – 16/11/2015 – 01:40

What an event Blackpool has been. It really is the party leg of the tour. Every single event has been well attended especially the main event, which got over 100 entries more than the previous year.

Of the 275 entries there were 18 players coming back for today and it took little time before we would get to the final table. After we lost..

10th – £5,000 – Kiat Lee
11th – £4,400 – Gareth Acreman
12th – £4,100 – Wadey Ashraf
13th – £3,850 – Paul Worsley
14th – £3,300 – Dave Seagar
15th – £3,300 – Craig Applegate
16th – £3,000 – Chris Scholes
17th – £3,000 – Matt Davenport
18th – £2,750 – Miikka Toikka

The final table began with Colin Gillon as the chip leader and Yiannis Liper as the short stack.

It took little time for our first exit as Neville White ran his Ace-King into the Aces of Turk. 9th place would be good for Neville to take home £5,750.

In 8th place we would lose Andrew ‘Stato’ Hulme losing a race holding K-10 against the Turk who held pocket nines, which held. Hulme would cash for £6,900 for his efforts.

Scouser Dennis Troake would finish in 7th place. He lost a sick hand against Colin Gillon where his set was beat by Colins two pair as he rivered a full house. Colin would then finish Dennis off as his pocket nines beat Dennis’ fives. 7th would be good for £8,500.

The Mad Turk who is regular on the GUKPT circuit was next to leave the final table. His final exit hand was running A-8 into the A-J of Lukas Dimsa. Turk was the first player to cash for five figures, taking home £10,700 for 6th.

Lukas Dimsa would finish in 5th place, five bet shoving and running into Jonny who held A-K, the A-Q for Lukas was no good and he’d cash for £14,300.

Colin Gilon who is on a bit of a heater and had a swingy final table would come up short after winning a UK Major last month. Colins final hand was shoving his short stack in with A-T and running into Jonny who held pocket Jacks. Colin would take a nice £20k back to Scotland.

In third place we would lose the local favourite Arthur ‘The Colonel’ Harvey. He has become a local legend today after his third place finish. The crowd were unhappy he couldn’t go a few places further but proud of the Colonel. His last hand he got it in with two pair but ran into Yiannis who flopped trips. Colonel would collect a cheque for £32,200.

Heads up would be one of the longest we have experienced on the GUKPT Tour. Lasting four hours! It was a roller coaster for both players and at one point Jonny was on the ropes. He managed to run well and get back to level and then eventually take home the title. The last hand was a classic coinflip where Jonnys pocket sixes would hold against the Q-9 of Yiannis.

The two players did a deal so Yiannis collects £61,000 for second and Jonny takes home £69,000 the trophy and the title of GUKPT Blackpool Main Event champion.

The Blackpool leg of the Tour is a unique one where it’s more of a party leg than any other where players come for the whole week.

I have to say a massive well done to Tania and her team in creating all the qualifiers, you could really tell there was a lot of locals playing in the tournament and in all the side events.

That’s it from us in Blackpool. Thank you for tuning in and make sure you do the same in two weeks time as we will be at the grand final in London.
