Stars of the future impress at the Grosvenor Casinos UK Student Poker Championship
Media Release: Wednesday 1st May 2019
The dust has settled after a week of unparalleled poker action at the U.K. Student Poker Championship, held at the iconic Grosvenor Casino Coventry. This was 7th consecutive year Grosvenor Casinos has hosted this fun filled week of poker and like every year the community spirit of poker mad students was on show for all to see!
The 2019 UKSPC Main Event welcomed a huge 796 students in total, but as ever there can only be one winner. This year the trophy was lifted high by the deserving hands of 24-year-old former University of West of England student Nic Bingham. Nic is clearly familiar with the world of poker as he bagged himself an impressive job as a financial analyst within the industry. Clearly all of the hard work on his dissertation on gambling was worth the effort, especially with this cash injection of over £6,000 into his accounts. A very impressive return from an initial £37 investment!
A huge congratulations also goes to all the other UKSPC Main Event finalists, including the runner up, University of Northampton student Danny Petros. The lively UKSPC rail went wild after the final hand which saw Danny’s flopped two pair up against Nic’s flopped set which by the river turned into Quads. Danny was the chip leader heading in to Day 3 and clearly played his socks off throughout. Another player to keep an eye on for the future.

A special mention goes to the University of Central Lancashire who won the team event for the second year running, earning themselves a top spec poker table to take back to their society.
The stand out story from the festival goes to University of Edinburgh Student Patrick Gifford who topped the online leaderboard for Grosvenorpoker.com’s “Join Team Grosvenor For a Year” promotion. The live playouts took place at Grosvenor Casino Coventry which saw Patrick finish on top winning the £5,000 2020 sponsorship package. The extraordinary thing is, this was the first time Chemistry student Patrick had ever set foot in a casino and he has only been playing for 3 months! Welcome to the team, Patrick!
